a very interesting ride into the mountains. The roads were a little scary but we made it to the top of the mountain. The Mission was so interesting and amazing that the Mexican people could travel this far to build a mission in 1699

The mission is decent but don't miss the country on the way there.
You will see the ravages of the two hurricanes that hit this country on the way there.
MASSIVE boulders that washed down the arroyos are truly amazing.
Traveling up into the El Gigante mountains - once you go over the top all the water flows to the pacific...
You will really have a feel of the country beyond the beach and the town.

** Visit the 300+ year old olive tree behind the mission and note the various farm plots and the brilliant irrigation systems **

ps - grab a coke or a some food/souvenirs while there.

The mission is in very great shape and the 300-400 olive tree is a must to see. Take the time to eat great food.

This is where all the missions in California begin. Walk back in time and visit this lovely area, complete with an ancient olive tree, old aqueduct, and sleepy town.

The drive to this historical mission is up into the mountains south west of Loreto and is 34 kms off of Hwy 1. A beautiful scenic drive on a paved road. There was quite a bit of construction at several locations where the road had been washed away from storms but there were no delays as bypasses had been put in place. The mission itself was very worthwhile to see and there is a good restaurant in the village. The drive back is spectacular, particularly as you look through the mountains and view the Sea of Cortez in the background.
