We stayed at Villa del Palmar Loreto and booked a trip for the Tour Isla Danzante. Our fabulous guides were Daniel and Fernando. We had gone out with Daniel on a tour of Coronado Island the day before (also highly recommended) and were glad he was going to be our guide again. They took our group to see a pod of dolphins in a beautiful cove on Danzante Island. Then they found a school of manta rays and asked if we would like to swim with them. Our group got in the water, surprised to swim with not just a few manta rays, but schools of several dozen of them! These peaceful filter-feeders were very graceful and beautiful as they swam all around us. Amazing! A once-in-a-lifetime experience. (Check out my photos taken with an underwater camera.)
Next, we took a tour of some neat lava rock formations and the gorgeous coastline terrain. Then we came upon a pod of common dolphins, which loved to play with our boat. They surfed the wake of our boat and also swam right under the nose of the boat, racing the boat. I have never been so close to dolphins before. They were about an arm's distance away from us and loved to play with the boat.
Daniel took us to a snorkeling spot and Fernando guided us to some amazing sea life. He was a great snorkeling guide and knew what to look for. The water was very clear and we saw the most abundance of fish I have ever seen in my snorkeling experience.
We ate lunch (provided to us) on the beach and had the opportunity to snorkel as long as we wanted. After lunch, we toured smaller islands with colonies of frigate birds and boobies (yes, booby birds).
A plus to taking this tour over Coronado Island, is that Danzante Island is closer to Villa del Palmar, and the boat launches out of Puerto Escondido, so you avoid the road construction. They also brought us back to the Villa del Palmar beach. Upon arriving back to the bay, Daniel and Fernando anchored the boat and invited the group to help them dive for chocolate clams. We brought the clams back to the bar on the beach, and the bartender prepared the clams for us to taste. Very fun!
This was a really fun tour, with so much to see and do. I definitely recommend it! Thanks Daniel and Fernando! We'll be back again for more fun and amazing memories!
