“A wonderful respite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

This is a beautiful Hotel. The rooms are comfortable and provide a wonderful view of the Sea of Cortez. The staff are gracious and charming. It is a very pleasant walk either along the seawall or strolling through the neighbourhood to the downtown plaza.
The meals served in Los Olivios restaurant were well presented and tasteful.Happy hour in the early evening is fun and a good bargain.
We would recommend La Mision as the place to stay in Loreto

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floors in the centre looking directly out to the Sea of Cortez.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 days at the end of February and enjoyed it so much. We had a room on the 4th floor with a balcony overlooking the Sea of Cortez, huge room, huge bed, huge balcony, nice bathroom with good quality towels. The bed was comfy, pillows even more so. The staff are helpful and nice, restaurant good, bar has happy hour for the margaritas. Right on the promenade, although it was windy while we were there, nothing spoiled our enjoyment. An amazing place, truly memorable, could have stayed longer, just a shame it is such a long way for us in the UK.

Room Tip: Go for high up overlooking the sea.

My wife and I have stayed at the Mision twice in the past three years. It's impeccably designed and detailed, and we felt very comfortable. The cool stone floors, spacious balconies, high ceilings, friendly customer service, and location right on the Malecon (beach boardwalk) make this an excellent choice in Loreto. I also appreciated the strength of the hotel bar's drinks; they definitely pour a mean margarita ;-) We'll definitely stay at the Mision when we're back in Loreto.

La Mision Hotel is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for elegant, spacious, comfortable, well appointed, upscale yet surprisingly affordable ocean view accomodations and related amenities in the heart of Loreto. Having traveled extensively with stays in Four Seasons, Ritz-Carltons, Park Hyatts, Amans, Plaza Athenee, Waldorf-Astorias and the like, La Mision hits many similar notes, naturally scaled appropriately to it's setting, scope and style. Service was responsive and on point, food and bar offerings were excellent , rooms are extremely comfortable and the convivial pool, lobby and second floor restaurant/bar area made for a highly enjoyable stay (I was attending a large group meeting which certainly added to the energy in these areas during my visit). The staff, led impressively by the General Manager I encountered, Maria Gamez, was outstanding in their hospitality and service levels. I would unhesitatingly recommend the hotel for anyone looking for an excellent (yet affordable) accomodation in a resort style setting along the waterfront in quaint Loreto.

We had a balcony room with sea view and it was STUNNING. Huge room with glossy marble tiled floor, beautiful furniture, huge comfortable bed. Arm chair with footstool in the room and another on the balcony! Kitchen microwave, fridge, crockery and cutlery and an enormous bathroom with the biggest bath I've ever seen. It was big enough for two big people and deep enough to sink right into. Fabulous. The view was to die for - dolphins in the sea, pelicans flying by, frigit birds, turkey buzzards, woodpeckers on the palm trees and hooded oreoles - all seen from our hotel room balcony, the pool and the bar. We upgraded from a smaller room by the pool that was a little dark due to it having only the one patio door out onto the pool. The upgrade cost us $40 per night extra and gave us a room that cost less than half the price of the Hilton in LA and gave us far far superior accommodation. The staff were fabulous, always eager to please, friendly and great fun. Ask Alain to do you one of his fabulous cocktails - he's great at it; even tastes it with a little spoonful on the back of his hand before serving - always gets it right. The Long Island Iced Tea was fabulous and the margaritas will knock you out - literally. The food was excellent value and compared with the local restaurants in price but exceeded them in quality of food and premises. You can't go wrong here. The harbour with boat trips is a short walk from the hotel, literally a few minutes and then you're off to see blue whales, sea lions, dolphins and a host of birds among the gorgeous protected local Islands. Perfection.

Room Tip: Choose a balcony room with sea view.

We stayed four nights in February 2013 and the hotel was excellent. The room had a great view of the Sea of Cortez and was much larger than most hotel rooms. All of the staff couldn't be better from front desk to restaurant to bar. We ate many meals at the hotel and it was always perfect, probably the best restaurant in town also. They have a Thursday night all you can eat pizza at the pool bar. Minor detail was many crickets, mostly dead, found in the room. It's just part of the locale and they had obviously sprayed the room but once I cleaned up they didn't come back. Based on the quality of the hotel, the staff, the food and the location we'd go back in an instant! Great job to the crew at La Mision, they really made us feel welcome and treated us like friends. Check the internet for best room prices.

Room Tip: Rooms at the north end are away from the restaurant and probably a little quieter.

Our family of 4 adult couples stayed at La Mision over Christmas week 2012. The hotel had been recommended by an acquaintance and we were not disappointed. No worries about drinking the water, as the hotel has its own purifying plant on the premises; a great relief!
We all had rooms facing the Sea of Cortez, each with its own private balcony. The whole hotel had been renovated in the not too distant past and the décor is a beautiful warm beige marble throughout the structure. Our room had a queen bed, which was very comfortable; the simple furnishings were most adequate and the room felt spacious. We were able to charge our cell phones and whatever other battery powered electronics we carried. The hotel was fairly quiet*, especially the few days after Christmas, as there were not a lot of guests at that time. As the week progressed, and more people arrived, their presence was heard, but it was never noisy.

The nicest part of our stay was the friendly staff; everyone was most accommodating. The waiters in both the bar and the restaurant got to know us over the week and were very kind and helpful. While many of the staff spoke a little English, some of them were very fluent in English, which made checking in and out and trip arrangements relatively easy. It also helped to have a few fluent Spanish speakers in our group!

We ate all our breakfasts at the hotel, enjoying delicious Mexican omelets, fresh fruit and excellent coffee. Most of our dinners were taken at nearby eating establishments of which there were many good choices. Some of our party consumed ice at local restaurants, and nobody got sick.

Although the weather was windy and cool while were there, we did have the opportunity to sit around a lovely pool in lounge chairs; one person swam briefly, as I do not think the pool was heated. There was a small hot tub at the pool’s edge, which was often occupied.

One does not necessarily need to rent a car while in Loreto; there is much to do just walking about. You can take a taxi from the airport for about $10/person and hiring guides for the local excursions seemed a good idea to us. I feel we just wasted money renting 2 cars for the week, as they mostly just sat in front of the hotel. Also, one is charged a mandatory $25/day liability insurance, so we spent over $500 per car/week – not something we will do next time. I imagine one can rent a car in Loreto somewhere for a day trip here and there.

This vacation was in celebration of my 70th birthday, and La Mision was a lovely place to have gathered for our family get-together. Although a bit more costly than other establishments in Loreto, I felt it was a good choice for our first time travels there. We felt safe and secure wandering around town and we look forward to returning to Loreto.

*noticing other's description of noise, we experienced it also in a room at the north end of the hotel. I think it comes from some kind of air conditioning located on the first floor at the north end. We requested a room change, about 3 or 4 rooms south and on the 4th floor, and were no longer bothered by the vibration and hum.

Room Tip: Rooms at the north end are subject to vibration and hum from A/C plant located on the first floor at...
