“Tough to Beat”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Wife and I stay end of Feb and first week of Mar, 2014 and very happy. Located at north end of malecon and town. map wrong. Stayed in room 14 with king bed, walk-in closet, big bathroom with shower only, couch, TV, big balcony with table and chairs. Bed was good. Had windows on opposite sides so rarely needed AC. Walked to town center and beyond almost every day. 70 pesos will get you home again from most downtown areas. Pool in great shape. 4 foot deep.Enough lounges and shade. Small bar open at 3 till 10:30.Antonio great bar tender. Little cafe attached open 7 am to 3 pm. Nice breakfasts and lunch - no beer. Carlos at desk set up tour with Espiritu Baja to swim with sea lions, saw blue whales, lunch on quiet beach. Do it. Public bus station mid town with direct EcoBajaTours minivan to San Jose airport at 10 and 11 am 420 pesos- get reserved. This time of year lots of friendly gringos. More european and Mexican as year gets hotter. If return to LaPaz, likely to here.

Room Tip: rooms vary quite a bit. Some two bedrooms with kitchen - some only bed and couch. Take the time to...

I highly recommend this place. It is a beautiful hotel just off the boardwalk. We rented Harley's from Cabo and rode up to La Pas and stayed here. They let you bring your bikes right into the courtyard so you can park right outside your room. This was my second time there I will be back for sure.

This hotel is a nice mexican hotel right at the end of the malecon. It has a central area with great seating areas around the pool and a bar. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms vary a lot, so ask what you are getting. Some have been updated, some have kitchens, some are just a room and bath and older. We had one of the older rooms, it was the least expensive of the rooms and not updated. It was clean and adequate, the bed had a very hard mattress. I'd stay here again.

It's good to be back in beautifull LaPaz where you can walk the malecon and rest and relax at the resort . So much for the bad rap about the pool yes they were doing some maintenance on it for a few days, they usually do at this place to keep it a nice place to stay
The whole bottom has been refinished and it is beautifull now

We just spent two weeks here. The service is great, rooms clean and Antonio at the palopa bar by the pool makes killer margaritas and can recommend things to do around town (in very good English). Carlos at the front desk can book snorkeling or fishing trips for you or get Alberto to drive your group around town. This hotel is located on the Malecon (which is well lit and safe) so you can walk to numerous restaurants in the evening. Nice pool and staff!

We have stayed at Club El Moro many times over the past few years using time share exchanges through Interval International. We have had good experiences for the most part, but this year we were very disappointed that the hotel decided to close the pool, three days into our stay (without so much as a word to us) and began jackhammering the pool interior for a complete renovation (see photograph). We booked our exchange back in April, so the resort had plenty of time to provide notice to any prospective guests of any maintenance issues they would be undertaking in the future. September is one of the hottest months of the year in La Paz and having the ability to swim in the pool is something we look forward to every day. To make matters worse, we had been in contact with the manager of the hotel by email and by telephone more than once the week prior to our arrival to confirm details concerning our reservations, and not once in any of the emails or phone conversations did the manager mention to me that the pool would be closed during our stay. Our traveling companions, who rented the room next to ours, were also in email contact with the manager several times over a period of weeks booking their room prior to our trip and he likewise said nothing to them. I also find it unfortunate that Club El Moro did not advise Interval International of the planned maintenance of their facility so that they could warn potential guests what the condition of this property would be if they chose to stay here in September. I will be writing to Interval International about this matter as well.

I am sad to say we will not be staying at Club El Moro again after this experience. They offered us no discount on the room upgrade, not even a drink at the bar to say they were sorry about the inconvenience, dust and incredible noise. As a warning to anyone planning to stay at this property in the near future, I believe it will be some time before the renovation is finished.

We traded timeshare points to stay at this hotel so of course, being used to high quality resorts on our travels, were wary of this type of accommodations! We flew into Cabo, rented a car, stopped at Costco and then drove to La Paz. Having not been to La Paz before, we ended up getting there just as it was getting dark, and got lost! We finally made it down to the Malecon and drove to Club El Morro but by then it was getting late. The first unit we were taken to had a broken air conditioner in the bedroom...... So we were taken to the next room.... Which currently had no drapes on the balcony windows! That wasn't going to work so we were taken to another building on the third floor and that is where we stayed. That meant we lugged our luggage ( with help from one hotel staff person)...... Three times before we could sit down! Our visit had a rough start..... But over the next few days, we settled in and were able to identify the upsides to this hotel. First.... It is in a great location right across the street from the Sea of Cortez and far enough away from the noisier section of the Malecon. Parking is free and so is the wireless internet which was pretty consistent while we were there. The units have a lot of room with a bedroom, living room, bathroom and a nice sized balcony. There is a/c and ceiling fans and a workable kitchen with a normal sized refrigerator with a freezer section. The furnishings are super dated but we got used to it. There are no safes for valuables but we eventually came to realize that the property is well watched and we relaxed about that. The grounds are nice but pool is cold as was the jacuzzi.....thank goodness there was HOT water in the shower! We drove to the nice beaches each day and LOVED it there! Stand up paddling at Balandra beach was heavenly and then spending the rest of the day at Playa Tecolote swimming, snorkeling and enjoying the quiet beach under a nice palapa! The sand is white and the Sea of Cortez a turquoise blue and oh so warm! Just be sure to only drive on the upper hard sand road and not the lower sand road.... We got stuck in the sand our first day there and luckily a helpful Mexican with a shovel helped dig us out! We loved La Paz and will definitely go back on another trip.

Room Tip: Upper floors are quieter and have more of a view...... but there are no elevators!
