“This is a timeshare?? Great little place”
Reviewed November 10, 2006

This little timeshare property in laid back La Paz is a real sleeper. The complex is not new, nor glitzy, but the place is immaculately cared for and the people could not be nicer. 16 units only, we got to it through an exchange with RCI, and spent a week there. Large unit, great king bed, plus other sleeping for up to 8. Pool, no jacuzzi, free WiFi in the lobby, no phones in the rooms. No oven, but two very nice BBQs around the pool. And we too went to the welcome talk, with coffee pastries, etc.
We bought the cut rate boat trip around Isla Espiritu Santo island ($45 for one) at the beach (Tecolote) and while that was a good trip, I went back and did the kayak one day trip with Mar y Adventuras for $95. Much better as the guide was fluent in English and we had a frolicking great time swimming with the sea lions, plus about 1 hour of kayaking.
La Paz is low key, though a typical Baja town. Have fun in the markets, ...I used a bike the resort has to tool around town. Not as cheap as one might expect , but you can have breakfast for $3 from a tiny street market, especially if you can puzzle out the Spanish.
Staff at Los Gaviotas is ALL fluent in English, and very very eager to please. AND there is some English language TV.

What a pleasant surprise! Las Gaviotas is great. The staff is exceptional. I can't think of a single complaint. Everything was perfect. We loved La Paz as well. In fact, we're going back to Las Gaviotas this spring.

Couldn't find much about this resort but went ahead with a RCI exchange there. What a wonderful surprise if you are into wanting a bit of old Mexico charm as well as modern conveniences and hospitality. Everything was done on our time and when they had the most dreaded first day hospitality get together it was just that. No timeshare sale pitch just coffee and pastries while we had a presentation by local business people. Which was awesome and booked one of our best days there, a day on the boat for our first ever snorkeling and a cooked for us lunch out on a beach away from everything. And the sunsets are just as beautiful as they say besides being the back drop for families out for their evening stroll on the Malecon.

The bus trip was also a great experience even though we did take the long route getting there we learned and took the other bus company for both a day in Los Cabos and to get back to the airport after two very relaxing weeks. Well worth the couple of extra dollars they charged shorter trip, and they gave you a beverage and let you pick a snack to start your trip also very clean and a movie. Enjoy the siesta time still practiced there it's to hot to be out moving around at that time of the afternoon anyway.

  • Liked — Small size, large suite, very comfortable beds, location
  • Disliked — No spa on site
  • Tips/Secrets — Fly into Los Cabos and take the bus to La Paz bus station only a few blocks from resort

We had a truly great time staying at Las Gaviotas in LaPaz.
The staff could not have been more helpful, especially Alejandro. The space was commodious and well maintained.
We were on the third floor and our balcony looked out on the Malicon and the bay. . . a great view. Our rental car was very secure in the parking area under the hotel. The pool was beautiful and clean, though it was a little cool to do much swimming in mid January. We hope to return to LaPaz again and will definitely stay at Las Gaviotas if we can get in. Highly recommend!!

We just returned from La Paz (our first time to the Southern tip of Baja), and completely enjoyed the time we spent in this non-tourist city. The trips to the beaches, fishing (Dorado rules!) and snorkeling trip were all the adventure we could have asked for. The hotel was a welcome comfort after some full days of fun in the sun. The beds were very comfortable (important for my wife) and the kids just enjoyed it all. The hotel staff was very friendly and knowledgable and provided everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed cooking in the units (we had 2) and shopping for groceries (great jumbo shrimp) and beverages (a whole tequila isle) at The Cow, which is just a few blocks (4) away. We actually get a feel for living in this city. W.

Just back from La Paz,Mexico.Stayed at the Royal host Las Gaviotas resort near the malecon(waterfront).Arrived during carnival and it was very difficult to find the resort with police directing traffic at nearly every intersection and got lost but eventually found this charming resort. It's 4 stories high and very nice overall. The staff were very helpful and spoke english except the security guard Roberto but was good with body language. The town is quaint and charming and crime free from out standpoint.Best beaches are out from town approx. 20 minutes which is worth the drive. We just had problems flying back to Los Angeles during the stop in Hermosillo which the plane had to fly back to La Paz for maintenance on the battery which took 6 hours and missing our reconnecting flight from Los Angeles.

We just returned from the beatiful city of La Paz where we stayed at the Royal Host Club (Las Graviotas Resort). The city is huge, but we found it to be very safe and the Mexican people there are truly wonderful. Like most Mexican cities there is rich and there is poor, but there is the feeling whether you are in the tourist area (The Malecon) or back up in the burrios that you are a friend and are welcome. Do not expect your charge card to be welcomed , use Pesos and learn some Spanish not many folks speak English. Personally I plan to go back before everyone else finds out about it too.
