My friends and I take an annual trip to La Paz and stayed here last year. We couldn't wait to stay again this year and it was even better than before! It is just far enough from the downtown to be walkable, yet quieter than being in the center. And what a view! Great location, great view, great beds, great breakfast, and great hosts! Gail and Chalo are friendly and helpful and make you feel at home.

Room Tip: All of the rooms face the bay.

We stayed two nites recently at Las Gaviotas and enjoyed it very much. The owner/hosts were gracious and welcoming and offered many suggestions as to what we might enjoy doing.

Wish we had more time to stay as the city was so beautiful.

Memories of our stay at La Gaviotas and riding bikes along the Malecon will help keep me warm this winter <grin>.

Room Tip: Suite 4D gives you the best sunsets from the balcony....

The first hotel we booked in La Paz was not up to our liking. My wife did another search on line and Las Gaviotas had the best rating. We took a cab over there and fell in love with the room that Chalo showed us and booked it right away. Chalo and Gail, the owners were extremely hospitable willing to go out of their way to help you in anyway they could. We were served a very filling breakfast every morning while being entertained by the humming birds drinking from a feeder hanging in a nearby tree. The room was very clean and spacious (all had two bathrooms which made my wife very happy) with a view of the bay of La Paz. There was a heated pool which we took advantage of a few times which is great for relaxing after a day of site seeing or adventuring around La Paz. There were some excellent restaurants all with in walking distance of our hotel. I would highly recommend staying with Chalo and Gail if you plan on vactioning in La Paz http://www.lasgaviotasresortlapaz.com/Las_Gaviotas/Home.html It was very sad to leave but we made a lot of new friends and I'm sure we will be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are big enough to hold 6 people. The top floors have a best views of course.

We have just returned from two wonderful weeks at the Las Gaviotas Resort in La Paz. It was super clean, comfortable, spacious, fully equipped, and perfectly located with a fabulous view from the large covered balcony. Although the hotel is not right in the centre of town, we could walk to everything in the town, starting with a very good supermercado just three blocks away, and numerous restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel is just one block up from the malecon, which in itself is a real treat. It seems to go on for miles and the best part is watching the local La Pazenos enjoying themselves in their morning walks and jogs and the evening strolls.

As other reviewers have said, although the hotel is a bit older, the amenities are first rate, with plush towels, quality bedding, and comfortable beds. We loved the space (two bedrooms and two bathrooms in each suite) and the fully equipped kitchen with many extra touches, like the complementary large containers of bottled water. There is a heated pool and sheltered deck which means you can enjoy the water even during the occasional windy days.

But what really makes this hotel special are the hosts, Gail and Chalo, who provide a lovely breakfast of fresh fruit, eggs to order, oatmeal, and even occasional home made bread. During breakfast they chat with the guests and provide all kinds of useful and interesting information about La Paz and themselves, and help make whatever arrangements you would like for tours and trips, or just for walking around town. They made us feel like we were visiting with friends, and treated us with great kindness. Rarely have we felt so comfortable and at home in a hotel. And we can't forget to mention Sinai, Janette, and Roberto, who help make the hotel so comfortable and clean.

A truly exceptional hotel experience. Thank you, Gail and Chalo.

Room Tip: Rooms all face the bay, but above the first floor would have better views. End units have windows the kitchen and side of the dining room and living room.

My wife is from La Paz. When we chose Las Gaviotas online, we knew right where it was, overlooking the sea and a short walk to the heart of town. What I'm still unclear about is what sort of place to call it. It's not exactly a bed & breakfast, nor really a hotel. It's sort of like a building of condos, but really something with a bit of all the above. The building has sixteen identical units, all two bedroom two bath, with kitchen and a veranda with a great waterfront view.

While we were only two, the price was reasonable enough we could enjoy the extra space. It allowed us to ask friends and family over to watch the sunset over the water before we went out to eat. The people of La Paz love to watch the sunset like that.

I notice all the reviews mention the owners and hosts, Gail and Chalo. We stayed a week, and they sat with us through breakfast several mornings for a chat. Charming people and anxious to help guests with all their needs. Breakfast is included and includes eggs cooked to order.

The location of Las Gaviotas out of downtown and a block from the Malecon (waterfront walkway and street), allows it to have a relaxed comfortable air seldom experienced in most commercial lodgings. The Malecon has been gloriously remodelled, making it a great asset for the people of La Paz. You will see the Malecon walkway almost crowded early in the morning with so many people using it for exercise. In the evening, it is more for strolling. For the guests of Las Gaviotas, it can be for exercise, or just a stroll into town.
