My wife is from La Paz. When we chose Las Gaviotas online, we knew right where it was, overlooking the sea and a short walk to the heart of town. What I'm still unclear about is what sort of place to call it. It's not exactly a bed & breakfast, nor really a hotel. It's sort of like a building of condos, but really something with a bit of all the above. The building has sixteen identical units, all two bedroom two bath, with kitchen and a veranda with a great waterfront view.

While we were only two, the price was reasonable enough we could enjoy the extra space. It allowed us to ask friends and family over to watch the sunset over the water before we went out to eat. The people of La Paz love to watch the sunset like that.

I notice all the reviews mention the owners and hosts, Gail and Chalo. We stayed a week, and they sat with us through breakfast several mornings for a chat. Charming people and anxious to help guests with all their needs. Breakfast is included and includes eggs cooked to order.

The location of Las Gaviotas out of downtown and a block from the Malecon (waterfront walkway and street), allows it to have a relaxed comfortable air seldom experienced in most commercial lodgings. The Malecon has been gloriously remodelled, making it a great asset for the people of La Paz. You will see the Malecon walkway almost crowded early in the morning with so many people using it for exercise. In the evening, it is more for strolling. For the guests of Las Gaviotas, it can be for exercise, or just a stroll into town.

It's been a couple of months since our visit to La Paz and our stay at Las Gaviotas. We wanted to let our recollections age awhile so we could savor them the more. With the passage of time, our stay at the hotel under the wise guidance of our hosts, Gail and Chalo, has only become a better memory. La Paz, of course, is charming and real, not just a tourist destination, but a lively, thriving, small city with lots of inviting activities and friendly people - a terrific place to vacation - and the hotel greatly enhanced the whole experience. Our suite, and I assume they are all much alike, was commodious, open, very clean, and well decorated, with two large bedrooms (excellent queen and king beds), two separate bathrooms, a sizeable kitchen, a dining area, a relaxing and spacious living room, and a magnificent balconey. The balcony, large enough for a good sized table, four chairs and a recliner with room to spare, offered an incredible view of the bay. The hotel was one, short block from the malecon, and we frequently walked to restaurants or musical and artistic venues with ease. As the for the hosts, I can't say enough. They were always accomodating and responsive (we seemed to lose things or need recommendations with surprising ferequency) and were always available to make arrangements or to consult. More than that, though, we spent every morning with them at breakfast (also excellent) discussing everything about life and life in La Paz. It was like spending part of the day with old friends who just happened to be there to meet and satisfy our needs. A terrific arrangement and great fun. In conclusion, I would highly recommend a stay of any length with them, and we will certainly do so ourselves on a later visit.

Room Tip: Any rooms would be fine.

Actually, we have stayed have been to La Paz maaaany times and stayed at most of the hotels/resorts. Las Gaviotas is by far our favorite and the only place we have stayed for the last five years or so.

The units are clean, light and airy and roomy. Two bedroom two bath, the size of a small apartment, with gourgeous views of the bay and those romantic La Paz sunsets. We enjoy being able to go to the nearby market and make our own lunches or dinners if we just feel like staying in. It is centrally located, just a few blocks to very nice restaurants and LA FUENTE ICE CREAM STORE! Gotta have the ice cream. 'Nuff said!

Ample parking right on site if you decide to rent a car. A car is really not needed in La Paz. it's all about strolling and from the resort you can easily walk to downtown, market etc.

We were looking for a place to stay one night in La Paz on our way from Cabo to Loreto. Via hotels.com we reserved at another hotel but - long story short -ended up at Las Gaviotas. It was so relaxing and welcoming we decided to stop there again on our trip back!
Located one block from the malecon - it was within short walking distance from shops & restaurants. After a long travel day with a flight from Northern California plus a drive from Cabo, it was just what we needed. The owners Gail and Chalo were friendly with lots of local tips and directions. The rooms were clean and spacious with great sunset views and the complimentary poolside breakfast - Great food and great company!

Having to travel on business to La Paz during one of the busiest parts of my week, requires that I feel comfortable enough to come and go and get my work done. Gail and Chalo offer a scrumptious breakfast, complete with fruit, yogurt, eggs and home made bread, served pool side. It got us off to a great start in the morning. The pool is great for lengths. The rooms are really a two bedroom apartment with a view of the The Malecon and the ocean to wake up to. The apartments have all the amenities, two full baths and more. Central enough to walk the Malecon, but quiet enough to sleep. Secure parking and friendly staff make it a great La Paz option.
