Visited this place in Feb 2014 and had a great evening. Food was awesome and different. We will go back when in La Paz.

“Muy Subrosa”
Reviewed March 7, 2014 via mobile

Wow! We had the 6 course dinner served to us by Victor with frequent appearances by the chef and staff. Best service I have had in a restaurant in my life. The food is based upon traditional Baja California Sur cooking as interpreted by the chef. Every course was unlike anything I had ever eaten and every coarse was very tasty (muy subrosa). The background and ingredients of each course were explained to us by Victor and/or the chef. The chef and staff were totally into providing an authentic and original dining experience. The experience of dining at El Tupe is equal to the food. This is the type of restaurant that will eventually get discovered and you will have to make reservations weeks in advance to get in. It has not gotten to that stage yet, so go there and enjoy it while you can.

“Unbelievable orgasmic journey for my taste buds!!!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

We read an write up of this place in a local newspaper and thought we would try it out.
We were shockingly blown away at the artistry and creativity displayed in the preparations here.
All local and fresh organic food is used here. The style of food here is like no other I've been to or ever seen anywhere.
For a foodie it is truly an unbelievably orgasmic encounter. Certainly a not to miss.
We too enjoyed the 12 course meal and were repeatedly shocked at the flavour explosions and unique combinations placed in front of us.
I will remember this unexpected journey of my taste buds for a very long time.
Oh and don't forget to try the smoked mint tea....it defies the essence of whatever you think mint tea is supposed to taste like

“Very surprising!”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

We certainly didn't expect to find this type of restaurant during our stay in La Paz. The owners/chefs are trying to create something totally unique in LP. The 6 course taster menu was both innovative and flavoursome. Their mission is to give a contemporary twist to regional Mexican cuisine. Victor, who is front of house, is a delight. He is eloquent, informative and polished in his presentation. They deserve to succeed in this venture. First class!

“Authentic Experience, Amazing Food.”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

If you appreciate food, and more importantly, a food experience, this is your place. If you are worried about portion size, go to Applebees.

We love to discover new restaurants when we travel, and we like to try things that are authentic to the place. We heard about El Tupe, and decided to try it out. We actually went for breakfast first, and enjoyed traditional Machaca, and handmade coffee crusted corn tortillas with local cheeses, beans, micro green onion and cilantro, jalapeno and heritage quail eggs. Add the pour over coffee, with a giant bottle of fresh cream, and needless to say, we were hooked. Chef Luis also brought each dish to us, explaining every ingredient, and the significance of the dish to the region. Aside from the food, the thoughtfulness that applied to every aspect of this experience is impressive, and the humility and passion that are felt at the table leave you feeling even more satisfied. We discussed the meaning of the name, and philosophy of the restaurant with Luis at our outdoor table, and were blown away at his commitment to sourcing every ingredient from Baja, and his program that teaches other young aspiring chefs how to source the best, fresh and local ingredients directly from farmers and fisherman. We wrapped up breakfast, and made a reservation for dinner later that night.

When we arrived, our table was set and ready for us, and we were welcomed immediately and brought fresh cold brewed damiana mint tea, that was served in a smoked glass (that was a first for me, awesome idea) We signed up for the 12 course meal because we wanted the full experience, and that is what we got. To the reviewers who are worried that they didn't get a menu, all I can say is that I was completely comfortable sitting down knowing that each and every course was a surprise, because I knew all of the thought and preparation that went into each one. In addition to the food, the service was excellent, and many times, the chef and others from the kitchen would all come out to make sure everything was delivered properly at the exact same time, and also to add touches like pouring a sauce over a dish, or searing fresh fish on a hot river rock, and then hitting it with fire on the slate. We were so full and satisfied at the end, and can easily say it was literally one of the best meals and experiences we have ever had out to eat. When we left that night, we felt like family.

We were leaving the next day to come back home, and all I can say is that if we would have found this place on the first day of our trip, we may not have tried any other place.
