We live in La Paz all year around, and as this restaurant is part of the hotel we hadn't really thought about going until friends of ours recommended we went.

My wife and I ordered the tasting menu as it was our first time and we were really happy with the selection. They brought us 6 different mini courses and a selection of bread, each one with a specially selected glass of wine.

We arrived at around 7pm which is a little early for Mexican dinner and as it had just rained it was a little humid, however by 8pm the restaurant started to fill up but the service didn't falter, they were clearly used to serving lots of tables, and continued to make us feel really special explaining the different wines and dishes as they came out of the kitchen which was really useful for us as we know nothing about wine at all.

Definitely one I will be recommending to my friends and clients.

From the moment we entered the restauurant we knew we were someplace special.
We felt immediately at home, the decor felt like a restaurant in Moneterey or Carmel, California.
We were served tastes from the menu with wines paired to the dish. The somaliee described each wine and explained why he chose it.
Each course was magnificent, and left us begging for more.
It was exciting to have our dishes come carried one each ( there were four of us ) by 4 white-coated waitesr. There were smiling and proud and playful.
We felt truly special.
We look forward to going back to Steinbeck's again and again.

ok I guess I should be nice, but for all the foo furufoo foo, they got everything all mixed up. Food was ok, to be fair it was a ladies luncheon and lots of us, so maybe I should go again without all the ladies and come back and review again. However, wait service had nothing to do with taste of food!

Steinbeck would never have eaten here. Tasteful decor - tasteless food. Barely a clue in the menu fare you are in Mexico. After a tepid and tiny (hardly a sign of Blue Goose) pomegranate martini (110 pesos), we were cautious about ordering. The tuna "sashimi" came in 45 minutes - it was appallingly tasteless. Playing it safe, I ordered a hamburger plate (160 pesos). It might have passed muster at a golfing clubhouse in Terre Haute - The twenty-somethings gathering here seemed not to care about cuisine; the service, by pleasant young women, was incompetent - as we we were waiting to pay our bill a cook came to deliver duplicates of our orders. It took two hours to endure this complete disappointment. We had spent the week before enjoying food cooked on the beaches of Espritu Santo in a kayaking expedition - all far tastier than this. And we were free of "the revenge" until Steonbeck's!
