Owner description: Swim with the sea lions and snorkeling in the beautiful clear waters of the Sea of Cortes at Espiritu Santo Island.Reaching the island takes us around 45 minutes. Once We get there our activities are snorkeling with the playful sea lions, time to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches of the area and sight seeing.

Our small group had planned to take a relaxing boating excursion to Isla Espiritu Santo...but experienced a fantastic unexpected adventure. Our guide, Alan, and captain, Sergio, teamed up to provide a really memorable day. We had numerous encounters with humpback and blue whales so close you could see them along side our boat...enormous, graceful and beautiful animals. Alan himself was surprised that we were able to see so many of both types during our excursion...he could not resist the temptation to join the whale for a swim near our boat. We landed on the Isla and had a great lunch. Highly recommend these professional, friendly and knowledgeable guides and boat operators. Ed M.

We connected with Jose Luis via email and he set-up a four-person trip to Espiritu Santo Island the following day. We drove up from Cabo (two hours) via Todo Santos and Jose Luis went as far as asking for our cell 'just in case'. We had an amazing day on the water, with the sea lions and on the beach. Boat was great, easily handling the 9 guests, and the guide (Jaciel sp.?) was a good guy. The sea lion swim was excellent and was comparable to what we did in The Galapagos. Once very young sea lion was like a like a little puppy swimming and crawling all over my wife.

Our only disappointment is that we didn't so this trip on earlier trips to Baja.

(One of the quests was off a cruise ship and Jose Luis arranged it so the she could be dropped off from the panga next to the cruise ship, before the rest of us returned to La Paz. Great service!)

We had the most incredible trip to Espiritu Santo island. On the way out to the island we experienced Humpback whales breaching near the boat. Our Captain skillfully maneuvered so we could watch close up for at least 30 minutes. The scenery of the sea, island, and colors of the water along the shore was spectacular. Then the swimming with playful sea lion pups in the wilderness. WOW! So fun. We found ourselves in an energetic ball of about dozen joyful sea lion pups. They initiate the play time, all you have to do is show up. Truly a unique experience. After 45 minutes with the sea lions we had lunch on a pristine beach. Gorgeous. We took in some history of the island on the way back, (BTW, check out the Museo de Antropología e Historia de Baja California Sur in town for more some displays on the ancient inhabitants, very interesting). Then, after all that we thought our day was complete until we came across a school of manta rays numbering in the hundreds, maybe a thousand or more. No joke. WOW. The guide turns to me and asks if I wanna snorkel with mantas. HECK YA! Everyone quickly geared up and snorkeled into a school of hundreds of manta rays. Surrounded by manta rays. UNBELIEVABLE! Our guides Marine Biologist Alan and Capt. Sergio were *FANTASTIC*. Such an amazing day.

This rates as the best trip we've ever experienced out on the water. Simply Incredible.

The next day we booked a whale shark trip that was also with excellent guides. We must have snorkeled a dozen times with the whale sharks by the time the trip was complete. So fun.

Jim and Julie

If you want to snorkel with otters and seals, in real life habitat, this is for you. Company was very professional. You get a wet suit and all other gear for $85 or $88 if you use a credit card. About 2 hour pongo ride from La Paz to get there, about 1hour snorkel time, about 1.5 hr beach stop for lunch and about 1.5 hour ride back to La Paz. You can bring your own cerveza if you like. Highly recommend.

Espirtu y Baja Tours is a small eco tourism company in La Paz, Baja California. Having owned an eco tour company myself decades ago, I was very impressed with their commitment to the local ecology and superbly managed tours. We took their tour to the island of Espiritu Santo this last winter and had a wonderful experience. Rodrigo, their tour guide is a marine biologist well versed with the marine life, geology and history of the area among many other subjects and speaks several languages. Cesar, the vessel's pilot, is a local from Espiritu Santo and both men have a knack for creating a welcoming and entertaining atmosphere very much appreciated by their clients. Our son is autistic and they took special care of him during the entire trip. We also enjoyed Rodrigo's delicious ceviche which he prepared himself for the trip's lunch. And if this experience wasn't enjoyable enough, we also ate breakfast and lunch at "Cachitos", the cozy coffee bar and eatery next door run by Carla, a friend of the guys at the tour company. We liked her fare so much that we kept returning during our ten day stay in La Paz. It's also a great place to have breakfast before the tour begins. Her crepes are scrumptious!
Unfortunately, the unusual cold and windy weather which blew down from the Artic spoiled our plans to partake in other Espiritu y Baja tours but we will definitely continue their tours this year when we return to La Paz. Check out their photos in Facebook.
