“Beautiful, but not worth the cost.”

The restaurant was just an amazing ambiance. The first course which was a dinner type tart was extremely tasty, but the proportion was small. The waiter was good, but missed some key things and questions. Like there was no salt or pepper at the table and he didn't bother to ask about how my husband wanted his $35 steak.

The salad was very good, but tiny for a $10 salad. Next we were served the main dishes. The waiter didn't speak very much English, so my dish was surprising. I thought I was getting a pork dish, and it was, but it was very fatty. My best guess, is that it was an authentic dish that was prepared well, but that didn't fit my likings. Also, for $20, the proportions were very small.

My husband's steak was tasteless and tough as a shoe. The rest of the plate was very tasty. The meal came to $88 without wine or tip. For a $100 dinner, it just didn't please me.

I would say it was definitely for the seasoned Hispanic person.

“As good as it gets!”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

The Restaurant is at the old winery of Santo Tomas, they made a great job of transforming it and creating a cozy and soft atmosphere. the wine cellar has the best of Santo Tomas wines and they also have a cheese cellar. The service is impeccable but the food is to die for! you have to go there 3 or 4 times to really have a chance to enjoy all what is available plus the specials. We are talking high gourmet here, dishes with a delicate an subtle flavor that will come from every corner of your mouth emerging from the clever blends that the chef Juantxo Sanchez has created (the perfect example of this is the "centollo") all the way to dishes with a very strong flavor cooked to perfection in the grill inside the restaurant like the Txuleton. Is the place? the service? the food? the people? the mix of Spaniard and Mexican? It is a perfectly calculated interaction that will keep you craving for more at an uncommon city.

“Mexico at its finest!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

A bit off the gringo trail, this newly-started gem is located in the 'old' center of Ensenada.
The setting is in the old bottling facility of the Santo Tomas winery. Giant barrels, high ceilings, open grill, attentive service and amazing Mexican gourmet food, at prices that would buy you a family pizza in Europe ($35-45 range per person including wine)
They also showed me their private dining option, which seats around 12-14 persons. If booked they apparently take you through the kitchen and let you see how they prepare the food.
We went for dinner, but they are open for lunch as well, and they even said that they will start serving breakfast in the near future.

All in all a great experience. I'll be back!

“Can't wait to go back!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

I had a chance to try Corazon de Mexico before the grand opening and was impressed. They are passionate about making great food and serving good wine from Baja. I barely got a chance to sample the menu, unfortunately. I'm looking forward to returning and seeing the complete menu that the chef has put together.

The restaurant decor is really impressive. It's located in a renovated winery/bottling plant and they've kept a lot of the character... it's probably worth a peek in even if you don't plan to eat. It's a couple blocks from the main tourist area but 100% worth the walk. Great for large groups, dates, or just a solo meal.

There is usually a staff member who speak English and all the food is safe for foreigners, fyi.
