“Great place for the price and a very friendly staff”
Reviewed August 20, 2010

Over the years I've stayed here at least a half dozen times and it has always been enjoyable. The rooms are perhaps a little "rustic" but that just adds to the charm of the place and what the heck? It's Mexico! If you want over the top luxury, go to the Bellagio in Vegas! The rooms are split level, have a bar to sit at with a small fridge, microwave and a sink. The rooms we've stayed at have balconies that face the street and I've always liked sitting out there before the evening starts having a beer and watching life in Ensenada go by. The beds are not the most comfortable but they are suitable and anyhow as I get older most hotel room beds bother me!

A small word of warning: the rooms that are closest to the disco can be pretty noisy in the evening but I've only noticed it at the rooms adjoining the disco. Otherwise I have always found it relatively quiet and felt very safe there.

We're coming back down within the next month and I'm already really looking forward to it!

had a pleasant experience from the desk clerk to cleaning staff. WiFi friendly in room, pool-nice. Best Western had a promo where you book two nights and 3rd was freee, that of course, was a plus!!!
The hotel is in a great location. You can walk to Papas and Beer, restaurants and shops. Hussongs Cantina has tuesday and thursdays 2 for 1 beer promo all day and night. Nothing to do with the hotel but Mango Mando pub has beer for a dollar on tuesdays....
The pool in the hotel is not heated and the water it is cold.
Our room was located on the second floor and somehow we heard lots of noise from ??? thumping /bass ???
Restaurant had good food and be sure to ask for special menu ... coffee, juice, warm bread and main dish for eight dollars....

A Best Western? I would call it a Worst Western.
My husband and I stayed at the El Cid on Dec. 25, 2009. We were given what seemed to be a nice room on the main drag in Ensenada. Except for the TV not working and the bathtub being dysfunctional, the room was OK. However, at midnight, the nightclub two doors down kicked into high gear. Have you ever tried to sleep with Nortena music blasting in your ear? At 2 a.m., I went to the front desk and asked the clerk if he could please do something. He shrugged his shoulders and told me, "This is Mexico." An hour or so later, he rang our room and offered to give us another room. So, we moved to a room that was indeed much quieter but icy cold. (Yes, it does get cold in Mexico in the winter.) The heater did not work and we had only a thin blanket on the bed.

At this point, there was not much to do but suffer it out until the morning. When we checked out, I talked to Eduardo at the desk and told him that I was very unhappy about our experience. I asked him why the hotel had put us in a room that they knew would get loud music all night. Eduardo stared at me blankly and said, "Cash or credit card?"

Whatever you do, stay somewhere else.

Thank you for your comments, we try to satisfy our guests needs as soosn as possible, and your input helps us du just that.
About the noise at night, there are 4 rooms in the hotel that are next to a disco, when renting this rooms our staff must inform our guests about this situation, and we offer them at a discounted rate, normally this are rented to people who plan to party until late and by the time that they get back to the hotel the disco is closed. We also offer earplugs for our guests.
We are sorry for any inconvenience and hope to see you soon back in Ensenada.

Sincerely

Jose L Rendon

We got there not knowing what it was going to be like, after reading so many review we were afraid where to go. We decided to stay here and it turned out to be a great place to stay, it was quiet, and comfortable. We stayed in room #517 San Jeronimo. The staff was nice and helpful. We got a flat tire and one of the maintance person took the tire to get it fixed. The room was cleaned while our stay there and they did a great job!! The food at the restaurant was so good, so good that we had breakfast there two days in a row and dinner, the food was so fresh and servers really nice....
After we checked out, we wanted to do some shopping and we were able to leave our car there until we were ready to leave.

the purpose of our trip was to have a dental restoration with dr david badillo lopez, sedemex dental office, 512 ave. lopez mateos . the best western is only 5 blocks away. very reasonable and very nice. staff was cordial, rooms were clean, spacious and well attended. continental breakfast was basic , juices and fresh pastries and fruit. complimentary internet in the lobby. adjoining restaurant was very good and busier than most other restaurants in the area.. our ten day stay ran over one weekend and the music from the nearby nightcliub ran late but afterall it is the weekend for these people so cut them some slack.. best dental experience of my life at 20% of price in usa. the food on the street, seafood carts is fabulous, and the waterfront is beautiful. visit the many parks, the old casino, the seafood market and the cinema.. we'll be back!

I rode my motorcycle (BMW GS1200) down baja, stayed at the El Cid, liked it very much, confortable bed, clean, I really enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi after the long ride. It is very well located and a helpfull english speaking staff, will be back in the summer.

Allmost forgot, we had a very nice dinner at an even nicer price, with wine!

I made my reservation for the weekend of Saint Valentine, and then came across prior guest reviews, and got concerned with the comments posted.

However, the staff at the reception was very friendly since I checked in. For the next three days, my wife and I observed the same thing (with three different employees at the reception). We have a four month baby boy, and the maids liked the baby so much that we felt welcomed in this hotel (we speak Spanish by the way - reason we were able to communicate with the maids).

My wife liked the place, such that she wants to stay here next time we visit Ensenada. Compared to Posadada El Rey Sol, it is slightly more per night, but the rooms are much better, definitely.
