“Nice stay”
Reviewed February 4, 2008

This was our first stay at the San Nicolas and I was overall pleased with our stay. It is a few blocks away from the main part of the strip, but it is easily walked. The rooms are very large and could easily fit 4 people without feeling too cramped. The pool looked really nice, but the weather was cold.

The staff was very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. Everything was relatively clean; my only comment would be that the bathrooms could have been a little cleaner.

We ate breakfast in the restaurant two mornings. The food was very good, but the service was a little slow. The lunch/dinner menu is kind of limited there were lots of big meals (steak, fish, complete Mexican dinners), but no appetizers or smaller meals other than sandwiches.

Stayed at San Nicolas Resort for three nights. Nice quite location about 10 minutes from the attractions.
Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Some even knew english.
When you check in you are greeted, your luggage is unloaded and your car is parked in their private parking lot. You also get coupons for complementary margaritas which were "delicious"...

The room I stayed in was right in front of the olympic size pool.
You be the judge with the pictures I took.

Dislikes: Bathroom was a bit small. Nice roomy shower though.
You are not allowed to BYOB.

Bartenders at pool side bar made sure you stayed hydrated.
Great Food!!...

I loved this hotel for all its unexpected touches -- dark wood-panelled rooms with interesting furniture looking out onto an enormous and totally kitschy pool; nice little happy hour, friendly staff. It's a bit of a hike from the main part of town, but not so much that I wouldn't stay here again. And it was such a relief to get to Ensenada after Rosarito. Tip: don't miss dinner at Manzanilla, once of the best meals I've ever had, at a great price and with an astonishingly friendly, super-talented & imaginative chef.

We booked this hotel at the last minute (the day before) and everthing turned out well. The hotel is a little shop-worn but the food and staff are well worth it. It is off the beaten path in a residential neighborhood just minutes from downtown and the shopping area. We learned to appreciate the location as we could leave the noise behind.
Ask for a room that overlooks the pool as the waterfall sound is quite soothing.
We had one glitch (leaking a/c) which the staff resolved immediately. They were even patient and encouraging as we tried our limited Spanish.
Would we return?? Yes! in a minute!

  • Liked — Location (off the main drag) + food + staff
  • Disliked — It could use some updating in decor.

My best friend and I went down to Ensenada for a weekend trip. We had such a great time there! The staff at San Nicolas were so nice and helpful. I knew that it was going to be a great place to stay when he gave us our coupon for two free margaritas in the bar!

Our room was gi-normous! The bathroom was pretty clean and the shower was so spacious that you could probably fit four people in there comfortably! (Not that we did that or anything!) The beds were firm and clean. I have to admit there was a strange funk in the room when we first got there, but after opening the balcony door, it was fine. We had a great view of the pool as well. One odd complaint was that the rug felt a bit moist, we're not quite sure what that was about, but it was fine walking around the room in flip-flops.

The pool is exactly as big as it seems it is! The hot tub was pretty large as well, there just were not many jets working in it.

San Nicolas was in a convient area of town. We were able to walk to everywhere we wanted to go, including the local neighborhoods and the clubs.

When we eventually passed out, the hotel was pleasantly quiet and restful. The staff there really made our trip. We will definately be returning.

  • Liked — The friendly and helpful staff! :0)
  • Disliked — The unusually moist rug!

Not a bad place to stay. Has the south of the border flavor. A little out dated, but exceptable. It is Mexico. Would recommend it.

The Hotel San Nicolas in Ensenada is a wonderful place to stay. I've stayed there twice and have already booked a 3rd weekend. On my first visit (July 2006), it was the only hotel I could find that had any rooms - which made me a little suspicious. However, it looked nice on the web [-], and I decided to take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are clean and comfortable (if not brand spanking new), the service is friendly and helpful, the pool area is lovely, and the restaurant is quite good as well (though I usually like to eat at the downtown restaurants for variety's sake - I don't like to just stay at my hotel all day long).

The bathrooms are a bit small (though the showers are roomy), and the TVs get about 25 cable channels, more than half of which are in English. You'll get ESPN, HBO, Animal Planet and NBC for sure, as well as some miscellaneous movie channels and some Mexican channels that run American shows such as Law & Order in English with Spanish subtitles.

All in all, I heartily recommend this hotel!
