Owner description: Roughly translated as "the snorter," this underwater cave regularly sucks in sea water and spits it out the cave's top drenching visitors to the site.

La Bufadora is an interesting site. On the way one can see the rural areas of Ensendada. Once you arrive you will have several vendors trying to sell you items so be prepared.

The blow hole is about the only thing to see in Ensenada other than adult or alcohol related. To get to it there is a gauntlet of hucksters trying to sell you stuff at "99% off" (aka knock-off/cheap). The blow hole is not a bad place to go under that condition. But, if you are on a cruise then consider just staying on the boat since there are more attractions on-board. Toilets cost $0.50 (USD) per use. Recommended time for the visit of ~2 hours includes travel.

We took a tour from Ensenada to La Bufadora. It was about 30 minutes from town. There is a portion of the road where its still dirt and a tad bit rough but luckily Ensenada is working on making the road paved completely. When we got there we saw the flea market which extended for blocks down the pathway to La Bufadora - the blowhole. You will get bombarded by vendors wanting you to try their pina coladas and churros claiming each one makes the best. I probably had 10 samples of pina coladas and a half dozen churro samples. All good and each vendors tasted the same. Anyways you walk through the flea market dealing with agressive vendors each wanting you to visit their store. Our tour guide told us which stores to go in. He probably got a kick back of some sort from each vendor because at the end of our trip here he was drunk. Everyone gave him shots of Tequila or whatever. Anyways, the sellers will always start the prices off very high. Offer them 60% less what they are quoting you. If they don't budge, don't worry there is a vendor that is selling the same thing in the next booth. Don't believe that anything is designer whether its watches, purses, etc. THEY ARE ALL FAKE! If you have the patience and know how to deal, it can be alot of fun and very rewarding knowing you got a great deal. As for eating, I recommend the fish tacos at the first stand on the right as you enter the flea market. The last taco stand is also very good. They have these clams topped with cheese and pico di gallo that are fabulous. I believe it was 3 large clams for $9. Very very good! I think the shopping here at the flea market is more fun than shopping downtown. They are much more willing to bargain with you.

However, you have to walk through what we would call in the US, a Swap Meet. It would be great to be able to leisurely stroll through and shop at your own pace, however, the PUSHY vendors make it very uncomfortable! The Blow Hole I could watch all day...fascinating!!!

Maybe we were lucky, but the local bus (deserted) took us to a parking lot within 100 feet of the blowhole. Sure, 50 of those feet are filled with vendors but they are just trying to make a living and are harmless. The blowhole is enormous and is an interesting amateur physics lesson - but the fun is watching the locals get drenched if not paying attention. The coastal road is absolutely beautiful as is the jagged but densely vegetated peninsula at the end. I would return if in the area. And for all the budget minded - buses are pennies and the sight is free.
