Owner description: Legendary expatriate bar where literary greats would share ideas over drinks: now a place where you can get drunk, feign pretension and buy a touristy T-shirt to commemorate your trip.

Brings back memories. When I told a friend we were going to Ensenada, he told me that I must visit the place. A real dive but I had to buy him a sweatshirt. My wife was pregnant at the time and our son is now 28, that's how long it's been. If you've never been, let's just say....you're not missing much.

My son-in-law's favorite bar in Ensenada! No kids allowed. It reminded me of the old western movies I watched as a kid! Many locals here.

A cool place to have a drink. Historic, over 100 years old. Drinks are reasonable priced and there is always interesting people to see. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the beers are 2 for 1. The draw back to the cheap beer is that its gets really packed. To avoid the crowds go earlier. Most of the time there is Mexican music playing. I go often and never get tired of it.

In late Aug 2013, I came here 2 times and had 2 completely different experiences. *The 5-star review is based on the quality of the place itself rather than my opinions about the types of people it attracts.

Day 1: Rolled in around noon after a serious ceviche session at La Guerrerense. Place was empty aside from a group of 5 gringos with matching bachelor party T-shirts. A roving mariachi band came in looking for customers. Shortly after, a group of 30+ celebrating the 50th bday of someone named Buzz or Bud or something - they all also had matching Ts with the dude's name on it - rushed in like a tsunami and took over with their yelling and screaming and chanting. Is this a bar or a boxing match? Game over.

Day 2: Noontime again, post-ceviche. The place was 3/4ths full. Still, sufficient space at the bar. Mixed crowd of Spanish-speaking locals drinking Tecate Light and micheladas, some foreigners with their margaritas. Lively crowd, but you can hear yourself speak, except when the random mariachi group breaks into song. Score.

Nice long bar, plenty of tables, back open patio/smoking area. Super clean bathrooms. The bartenders are awesome. Inexpensive, 2 for 1s, etc. Can't beat the atmosphere. In short, this is a bar bar, a cantina, a good place to start day-drinking. If you want homogenized, go elsewhere.

Super cold beers, friendly people, clean bathrooms, non rowdy bar, friendly musicians that adapt classic rock and roll nortenia style, big margaritas, only draw back.lousy parking, I rate this five stars to bad there are no six. I love this place and find most people do too.I think any visit to Ensenada deserves a visit here. You dollar goes super distance, and your treated with a lot of sincere respect. Great place to bring your lady and feel safe when you hit the head.
