“Ok, fun place for younger backpackers”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Stayed here as it was the only budget option in town with rooms (our first choice fully booked). Staff gave us a very warm welcome and were really helpful, even went out and celebrated my husband's birthday. Breakfast is just toast, jam and coffee but enough to start the day with. Unfortunately at the time we were staying a group of guys working at the local navy docks were also staying and they took over the kitchen every night so we couldn't cook and had to eat in town but other than at a good little place. Ensenada doesn't have much going for it, other than it's not Tijuana but if it's a town you want to stay in then we'd recommend Ensenada backpackers for younger people looking for a lively and upbeat place to stay.

Room Tip: Bring a padlock for the lockers, there's at least two in each room to store valuables

Loved it there. I several times don't accept friends' invitations to stay at their homes while traveling, because I feel like I'm intruding family life. But here I really got that "homey" feeling, without having to worry about disturbing little kids or the parents and so on.

The hostel is quiet, and has a REAL living room and kitchen that make you forget you're at a hostel. The guys and girls that work there are also very respectful and alert to all needs. Only missed out part was that the hostel doesn't sell drinks or food.

This place is freeeeeeezing during the winter! There is no heating system so you better bundle up with several blankets if you expect to stay warm throughout the night. I suggest packing thermals as well, and an electric blanket.

The only backpacker option here but it's good quality and value. 10 min walk to town / bars but local shops are closer. Staff speak good English, are friendly and accommodating. Small but congenial communal areas. Sheets clean tho bathroom is a little on the older side. Overall, very pleased.

Stayed here for about three weeks in total, on and off while working and taking vacation around Ensenada.
The Place is simple, clean and budget value as it includes a simple breakfast of toast and coffee. there is a computer and wireless internet available. the kitchen - although neither exactly new nor especially practical - nevertheless was the site of preparation of several fun dinner parties! there is a small yard out back for grill parties. lockers are available bring your own lock, i always forget! Staff is amazing! friendly helpful and generally good company. Hot water can be a problem! cheap food is available at every corner. downtown is walking distance, 15 min or so. laundry is two blocks away. super market is down the road.
all together good place to stay for a backpacker.

We met some really nice people...also people at the backpackers were very kind with us and gave us the best advices for the trip. Ensenada is pretty cool and calm, good parties at night and some nice places to visit near too.

There are a ton of hotels in Ensenada, but this is the ONLY hostel in the city, and at $18 a person for a dorm bed, it's also the cheapest. That is it's main claim to fame. Oddly Baja lacks hostels in general. Ensenada Backpacker is trying to change that. The price includes a free simple breakfast (coffee & toast), use of the kitchen, secure luggage storage, free internet usage, a huge common area to hang out, a free city map, and tons of tour information and advice from the owner Carlos, who is a wealth of knowledge on not only Ensenada but the entire Baja Peninsula. The hostel is located in a residential area within walking distance of the main tourist strip, and it's right around the corner from Tacos el Fenix, a food truck stand that serves some of the tastiest and best fish tacos anywhere! Carlos will be more than happy to hip you to it's exact location. The hostel is quiet, low-key, safe and secure. We'll be heading back to Ensenada for Carnival next month and we'll be definitely staying at Ensenada Backpacker again.
