“Quirky, comfy and very friendly”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

I discovered Jenny's House in 2006, booked for a week and stayed a fortnight, I have never stayed anywhere else where I have been made to feel so welcome. Since then I have been back every year and have just booked again for May this year. Now this may seem unadventurous, and I confess I am not an intrepid traveller, but I have been to other places across the world and none have drawn me back like Selimiye and Jenny's House.

The other reviews will tell you all about the delicious breakfasts, the immaculately clean rooms, the shady garden and the lovely pool. All of this is true, but Jenny's House is unique, it has Jenny and it is her hospitable spirit (ably assisted by Salih) which makes the charm of this place. It is a place to relax, make friends, read a book or chat over endless cups of tea and coffee, take a stroll or a swim, have lunch overlooking the harbour, watch people, lie in the sun and let the world float by.

The village is small, but there are a number of restaurants with a variety of styles and prices so you will have plenty of choice, and you are sure to find a favourite. It is very friendly, and very safe. And if you want to try a bit of hustle and bustle Marmaris is just a 40 minute bus ride away. You will be sure to heave a sigh of relief when you return to the village.

We were lucky to nab the last room in this lovely, welcoming guesthouse at the end of the season. It's one block back from the beachfront, so quite peaceful, and small enough that you can chat to everybody at breakfast. Our room was a fairly basic but comfortable ensuite twin room with a large shared balcony overlooking the pool. I cannot remember another place that has felt so much like a home away from home. We were just going to stay for 1 night, but ended up staying three before we had to move on. I'm sure other posts have quite rightly raved about Jenny's cakes, and the superb breakfasts, but it's more than that. Jenny is such a wonderful hostess that we felt like family members. No wonder other guests were back for the 14th time.

We travelled through turkey for two weeks in october 2012. The last 4 days of our trip we planned to recharge in Selimiye. Jenny´s House is a very good place for this if you do not expect much luxory. The rooms are clean, Jenny is very helpful and nice, the garden is marvellous.

Jenny's House is a small, quirky, rustic little oasis. We stayed in 'Papatya' which was a ground floor room overlooking the pool and breakfast terrace. There was a nice little patio area outside the room with a wicker sofa and table, the perfect spot to sit and read with a drink. The room was a decent size, but personally we found it quite dark due to the ceiling and floors being dark stained wood. Storage was a problem, there was no wardrobe just about six hooks on the back of the door with hangers and only two little drawers. Selimiye isn't the kind of place you need to take a lot of fancy clothes to, but none the less we didn't like having to pile our clothes on the spare bed - but that's just a personal thought. There were lovely touches in the room - tea/coffe making facilities, bottled water and even a box of tissues . . . but we would have traded them all for a wardrobe!
Jenny's homemade cakes and tea in the afternoon was a lovely thought and most people did return to enjoy and have a chat about their days activities. We also sampled one of Jenny's suppers and that was delicious.
Selimiye itself was a lot bigger than we were expecting and also a lot more "yachty" . The setting was stunning with a backdrop of mountains overlooking the lovely calm inlet. But for us the village somehow lacked the traditional turkish friendliness you normally encounter. After reading the description in the brochure, we had high expectations and although we had a very restful and relaxing week, rather sursprisingly and sadly it just wasn't for us.

I went to Jennys House as a lone traveller 1st time to Turkey. What a beautiful place, small friendly wonderful food cooked by Jenny, and I was made to feel part of the family. The Village itself is small with beautiful views across the bay with quaint restaurants and a fab coffee house called Jerrys a must. Jenny can organize boat trips and has a vast knowledge of the people and culture of this unique place. I highly recommend Jennys even if alone, you will want to back time and again.

Jennys house is not 5 star but is a very comfortable and friendly little place to stay. A few minutes walk to the harbour at selemiye, Jennys house is the perfect place to spend a few days to unwind and explore the area.
The rooms are very clean, a little basic, but have everything you need including tea and coffee making facilities. Jenny is a delight and she always seems to be racing around making sure everyone is ok. The breakfast was fantastic and the afternoon cakes seemed to be a great hit with many of jennys regular guests. Small but adequate pool and nice shaded areas to while away your time. If you want to visit traditional Turkey this would be a good place to stay.

We was fortunate to have had good company when staying at Jenny's House and together with the fantastic breakfast and Jenny's homemade cake late afternoon made this a perfect holiday for us. Jenny cooked a wonderful meal a couple of times a week where those who wanted to enjoyed the great food and company. Pebble beach just a short walk away but lots of decking with sun lounges on and you can just slip into sea to cool off. Village a bit remote to do any excursions but didn't bother us as we had done them all previously but you can always hire a car. You can take a day boat trip which you can jump on just a few minutes walk away - a must!
A big thank you to Jenny and Salih who worked so hard to make our holiday.
