After going in the boat trip that goes through islas del rosario and then Baru, we took the tour directly to Baru and stayed there until the launch returned.

The key is as you arrive, facing inland, go to your left because the crowded parte is where they leave you and to the right.

The sights were like other places in the caribbean but with shacks that i havent seen before to spend the night in nature (we did not stay the night).

We payed for the round trip (no lunch because we wanted to manage our time ouselves) 35000 COP or abt 18-19 U$D per person.

We threw towels on the sand and enjoyed the day.

When we got hungry i went to investigate all the little restaurants there are and found one i dont remember the name but the facade was cover with plastic bottle caps, colorful. I ordered a simple quesadilla which was big and great for 14000 COP or abt 7-8 U$D. We both ate that. I saw some fajitas come out of the kitchen and they looked sooo good i was impressed that wood and palm shack delibered those plates.

We hired straight at the dock La Bodeguita with Lizamar. Quite serious, departed earlier than the rest which is good, but their launches are a bit bigger, hence they go a bit slower. Took 10-15 minutes more to go and same to return, but its a nice scene so no problem. I would recommend them to arrange this excursions and probably others.

Overall a nice day even though we got sun burnt. Renew your protection at least every 2 hours to avoid future pain.

Cartagena is a beautiful city, but some of the public beaches (especially those in Bocagrande and Castillo grande) are too crowded and dirty. Playa Blanca is a short, 45 minute boat ride from the port in Cartagena (about a 10 minute walk from Getsemani and less from the center).

The beach is amazing, typical of most Caribbean beaches with clear blue-green waters and soft white sand. The amenities on the beach are few and it has an exotic feel!

Have your hotel set up the trip for you - truly this is the easiest, safest way. Most trips do a tour of all the Rosario Islands, then come to Playa Blanca around 12:30 for lunch and a couple hours on the beach. But you can also spend the entire day (about 10:30 to 3:30) on the beach, just be sure the emphatically tell the hotel and your boat driver that this is what you want! The price for a roundtrip (lunch included) is 50,000 to 60,000 pesos per person, about $26 to $32 - totally worth it.

Once you arrive, you will be accosted by people selling trinkets, foods, and massages. If you don't want anything, just say no and move on, they will eventually leave you alone and you can have a relaxing day. If you do decide to buy something, remember you can barter for a lower price!

You can also pay to get a covered area with chairs directly on the beach, usually about 20,000 to 30,000 pesos, or $11 to $16.

I definitely recommend a day at Playa Blanca if you're in Cartagena!

Playa Blanca is simply a feast for the eyes. Is an authentic caribbean beach with turquoise/clear waters and white sand.
Just as Cartagena (old city) there are plenty of mobile vendors here. The difference is that here you can buy a massage overlooking the Caribbean Sea - which I did and loved (don't forget to bargain, works beautifully).
No sophisticated restaurants or bars and restrooms are quite rustic - and you have to pay to use them. But the place is so beautiful that even with these minor problems is well worth the visit.

We went there in a rental car. An easy drive, including a very short ferry in Pasacaballos. There isn't much infrastructure with the exception of the typical beach "restaurants". I am glad we went by car and not by boat. Boats get there after visiting an island, drop a truckload of people on the beach at the mercy of people trying to sell anything, feed you anything (if you were lucky not to include lunch in the price), give you an hour and back on the boat for what must have been a terrible ride back against the wind. So, go by car or taxi. The beach is just what it's called: white coral sand, several shades of blue water, heaven. It is, indeed, what you expect in the Caribbean. Beaches in Bocagrande are not so nice, although not bad. But this one is just marvelous.

Playa Blanca is a nice place but if you go on a day tour you won't enjoy it I believe. I stayed there one night sleeping in a hammock and I must recommend it. A few tips, come with the bus + taxi, it is longer but much cheaper... I took the boat and I regretted it... The boats are to go are a rip off... To come back to Carthegena the price of the boat is more reasonnable so you can take it... (15 0000 to 20 000 COP) If you plan to stay more than 1 night, consider bringing your own food... Lunch is 15 000 COP, breakfast is 7 000 COP. There is a burger place where you get a descent burger for 5 000COP (far on the East side by the bicycle). A few shops to buy snacks, beverage and carbs are also on the beach (1000 COP for a small pack of biscuit or local chocolate bar...). If you want to be at peace go on the left side of the beach when you have the sea at your back to avoid the "day tour" zone. 1 night in a hammock is 10 000 COP... A run along the beach in morning is healthy and most pleasant ;-)
