We spent one week, Dec 28 to Jan 4' 2013 @ this hotel.
Positive: Beautiful beach, nice rooms and excellent service from the local personnel. Portion of the hotel is is Playa Puntilla that crossing done by small free ferry. Good cold beer and soft drinks. Chairs by the pool very comfortable.
Negative: Food is basic, repetitive. Wine is terrible. For New Year the food was ok, similar to most days. The music played very loud everywhere, including the relax pool.
Not worth the expensive vacation. For less money, can get a better package in Mexico and Dominican Republic. For sure, not going back!

Room Tip: Rooms near module 6 are quiter. Rooms in modulus 7 & 8 are hotter. Rooms in module 3 are larger and some have king size beds

I have a mixed opinion about this hotel. It is beautifully situated with a great beach and some nice pools (although nothing for kids). It is well built and the rooms are good but not very good. Unfortunately, it is poorly let down by the scrum for the food buffet, dreadful cheap drinks (particularly the wine), lack of towels and the continuous activity-based music. Why they think that everyone wants to do activities until 2am in the morning at horrendous music volumes I have no idea. Most people like to relax whilst on holiday. Unless you are away from the beach, you will not escape but being near the beach is the best part. My suggestion to the hotel is to open a new buffet area to accommodate the amount of people there, limit the volume of music and offer some decent drinks - don't be so cheap. You also need to improve the a la carte restaurants - they are poor, lacking in quality. The hotel could be good but needs some serious improvement.

two days my bathroom was flooding, no one answers the guest services phone, so you walk to guest services and they tell you they have 1200 guests and I am one, the front desk staff are the most unfriendly I hve come across, the food is ok, but really there re much better places to stay, you are just a number to the management of this hotel.

We try to provide balanced factual reviews.

The positives:
- smaller resort, cozy and friendly
- very good ocean view from room (it appears all rooms above the ground floor have a good view, oriented towards the ocean)
- superb site and architecture, well kept grounds
- 4 well maintained pools, clean
- medical centre on site attended by nurse 24/7
- outstanding wow animation for kids and adults
- clean room with nice view, good room service, no moldy smell in rooms, very good air
- quiet site, no noise at night, peaceful
- good nautical centre, very friendly staff, kayaks, sailboats, katamaran, sail board, you can kayak through mangrove area, neat!
- ocean water usually flat most of day, excellent for swimming, very child friendly
- can see good variety of fish on site while snorkeling
- reception is quick and well-organized
- good bar service
- free transport to a more secluded site (just accross a very narrow channel), where you can walk toi a public beach

What can be improved
- in the three restaurants, only one kind of beer and VERY BASIC red / white available, no apertizers available, same three deserts in all 3 restaurants
- most fish at the restaurants is frozen (but the salmon, imported from Chile, is fantastic)
- buffet variety is lacking and there are often lineups just for the buffet, longer line ups for individually cooked plates; they often run out of stuff (fruit, seafood, ice cream)
- service staff are well intentioned and eager to help but lack training (you often have to hunt down coffee, wine, etc)
- seafood is scarce and is usually in salad / rice
- at breakfast, juice is watered-down and appears to be made from concentrate
- rooms have no closed-off bathroom

Overall, a good experience, we'd go again, hoping the buffet improves.

Visited in March 2012. We decided to choose this resort as it had a great beach and looked great in the photos. It is however about 1.5 hrs from Cartagena, and the roads are a bit rough! Beautiful, vast resort built on a cliff. Lots of stairs and some room blocks are a bit far away from the beach than others. They have identical pools all over the resort, even one hidden by the rooms up in the cliff. No one seem to use this one, most likely because they don't know about it! The beach is awesome, beautiful blue water. The resort also has a nice little bar relaxation spot across the resort which you can take a short boat shuttle across to. Very nice set up and serve food and drinks. Don't forget to do this! Their spa is to dream for. They have their own infinity pool and the massage beds (some indoors) are on little islands (see pic) overseeing the ocean. The food was good and the sun was very hot! My suggestion to anyone visiting Cartagena is to do 2 weeks - one week at the beach (Decameron Isla Baru Resort) and one week at a resort in downtown Cartagena (beaches not as good) to explore the local culture and scene. I would recommend this resort to friends and family.

The only thing is no bar fridge, can request one $$$. If you have mobility issues, definitely request a pool side room on the first floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the buildings near the main pool for best access to everything
