“Totally agree - a hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2013

Warm and friendly pub (and staff). Don't miss it. Good varied menu - food excellently cooked (lovely veg and REAL roast potatoes !!!). We didn't stay here (we had a nearby cottage) but ate there several times over Easter week. It's excellent value for money with the added bonus that it's very dog friendly - although only when eating in the bar rather than the restaurant. Several guests who stayed in our cottage previously had recommended the Blacksmiths Arms in a neighbouring village (we had dinner there one evening) but in our opinion the Moors Inn knocks spots off the Arms!!

Thanks for your review, we are delighted that you enjoyed it, hope you'll come and see us again. We are planting potatoes this week in the allotment, so maybe next time they will be our own "proper" potatoes!

Stayed 1 night B & B. Lovely little village, close to Helmsley.
Very clean & comfortable. With reference to another review, our room was really warm, we had to turn the radiator down (and the weather was still cold outside)
Had evening meal in the restaurant - good quality food, real ale.
Excellent breakfast.

This lovely Inn is a grade 2 listed building with all the charm that goes with it. The food is good (not outstanding) and freshly prepared. The staff are all very attentive and the service is therefore excellent. The only down side was the room was very cold. The radiators only became luke warm. We did bring this to their attention and they sorted it for us that night and it did get fairly hot. However when the heating came on again next morning the radiators were back to luke warm. We did have a small electric heater but that did keep cutting out (it was thermostatically controlled) and only made a small difference to the warmth and then stopped working altogether. We would go again.

Thanks for your comments, we have had some issues with the oil central heating, which the plumber has now resolved. Sorry that you had to have an additional heater for the room, and I am glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

I was slightly worried after we booked this place as I read the previous review on Trip advisor which was quite negative. The room was simple & basic but perfectly clean and comfortable with an en suite that was larger than average.

The room did overlook the car park but it was hardly an eyesore. It was in fact a quaint stone covered courtyard which faced farm buildings (this is the countryside after all). Turn 90 degrees and the view was of open fields as far as the eye could see.

30 seconds walk from our bedroom took us into the pub which had an open fire and served a good selection of local beers. The food was excellent - restaurant standard in fact. We had the option to eat in the restaurant but preferred to sit by the fire and soak up the pub atmosphere. Breakfast was also excellent and plentiful. Quality products were served (free range etc)

I would agree with the previous review - if you want mod cons and high tech then don't stay here; but if you prefer comfortable accommodation, brilliant food, good beer and a "real" pub in a nice location then this place is ideal

I have one slight negative worth mentioning - the hairdryer provided was worse than useless so I would advise anyone to take their own

Thank you for your review. Can you remember which room you stayed in? We have fitted hairdryers in some rooms, and have replaced some of the travel hairdryers in the other rooms as part of our recent re-decorating. I hope we will see you again.

Stopped for one night en route to Whitby on 25th September 2012. Booked mainly as a result of previous reviews

Found that the Hotel had collected the full cost of the reservation from our credit card a week in advance of checking in.

Unfortunately, we found a cold and characterless room overlooking the car park (we had to ask for heating to be put on depite temperature of 10oC), cheap furniture, grubby carpets, and trip hazards without warnings and poor lighting in the passageway to the bar restaurant areas.
The door to our room would not lock properly from the outside and we had to take our valuables with us when we went to the bar where my wife was frightened by an over eager and dangerous looking bull mastive dog.
No wifi as advertised although available elsewhere in the village (logged on to them in error)
Arrived the night of digital changeover so restricted TV reception at the Hotel in the evening on an old tube style TV and none what so ever in the morning. Apparently both failures were some kind of 'Act of God', whereas good planning would have aleviated both problems.
Owner refused to give a discount for these ommisions despite their marketing promises.

Not recommended if you like sophistification and modcons
One redeeming feature was the excellent food and good beer in the bar, Plus a good full english breakfast.

We only stayed one night and did not get chance to sample the food except for breakfast which was great. The staff made us feel very welcome and even carried our bags. There is an excellent selection of whiskies in the bar ( we did have a chance to sample those ) The room was pleasant and gave us a good nights sleep. A handy place for visiting the moors and the steam railway at Pickering

We stayed at this quaint & quiet pub/hotel for one night in July 2012. The room was overlooking the village street and was very comfortable.
Arriving late, we thought we were to late for food but were lucky the chef agreed to stay a little later.
There's nothing much happening in the village which was perfect for us as we really needed peace and relaxation and this was exactly what we got.
Would hesitate in recommending this hotel.
Staff were also very friendly and welcoming.
