“Decent stay!”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

Overall this place is decent. Not so much for a romantic getaway or anything but would probably be ideal for a group of friends with low budget. Don't expect to get a good view from the hotel room. The room we stayed in felt a little muggy.. the bathroom was always musty and the shower curtain was moldy then I realized that the ceiling in our room was a bit moldy too! (but this might just be in our room) Their airconditioner was a little loud but other than that, this place is pretty clean and comfy for a cheap stay!

I booked this place as I got a good deal for 1 night and from the outside it looked really great. Apparently it is a new hotel too. Having seen the room I was surprised, it looked a bit tired. At least the bed wasn't bad, pretty comfy nice sleep. The view from my room (which was probably because it was cheap - £35) was pretty rubbish. It was the side of next door's hotel and a car park type thing.

Breakfast was not provided for the price, but they did offer it for 700baht, hah, £15 for breakfast? in Thailand? I don't think so

One bad point, wifi was NOT free. You could only get free wifi in the lobby which wasn't even very strong, but if you wanted it in your room you had to pay, which is always a sore point for me.

The staff were nice enough, helpful in calling ahead for another hotel for me.

Like Apasari, hotel was on Moo 3, alongside other "4star" hotels, short and safe walk into town.

Between this and Apasari though, I would take Apasari for the free wifi.

Room Tip: Avoid getting the side of next door's wall and garage

So this is a nice hotel. It has a few problems which I'll mention, but overall, this is a great place to stay for a relaxing holiday in Krabi in a fantastic location. I hesitate to give it a 4 star as there are things it could do to improve. It certainly has the potential to be.

Location: Fantastic. Right on border between the west side of Ao Nang beach and the east side of Nopparat Thara beach. You have access to a long-tailed boat service to Railay Beach (best beaches in Krabi) minutes from your door at the junction, or if they're not running as frequently as you need, then just another 6 minute walk is a much larger boat pier on Ao Nang beach, giving trips to Ko Phi Phi Don, and more. (recommend you catch/ return from here)

Our arrival was very pleasant. We'd been travelling for 18 hours and arrived early at 10am. They took our stuff, gave us a complimentary drinks and discounted restaurant food (basically the 10% service charge was knocked off) and towels for the pool. Nice start and welcome.

Rooms: Really nice big airy rooms with small but inofffensive balcony.
Bathroom, really big. Bed and bedroom really nicely decorated. A few quibbles though. Old stained sheets (clean, but stained) and a mouldy shower curtain, are unneccesary and easily avoidable. Overall though, the rooms are pleasant and a great place to return after a hot exhausting day, doing nothing on the beach. Mini-bar cheap. 2 free bottles of waters as standard.
Hot water is tepid and changable. Certainly can't run a bath. Not great really for the size of hotel. Also do not hand wash clothes! All my whites came out with terrible orange stains from the water. Had to wait to get back to England to rectify!

Pool: Nice. Not very big, but still decent. Not overly used either, as the sea is minutes away and much warmer!

Breakfast: OK, not great. Cold food better than hot. Fried rice in the morning is not my idea of breakfast but, who am I...
Wifi: Annoyingly expensive. Best to get unlimited access if staying for a week at 500 bahts. This should really be free!

Travel Tours: You can buy your travel tours (Island visits, excursions) from the reception, however they were charging slightly inflated prices. You're better off booking on the main road further east along ao nang beach where you can save quite a few £'s.

Don't get ill, as they have no first aid kit! I cut myself and had to go to a pharmacy to get a simple bandage and antiseptic.

Radios: If you like a lie in, and I mean to sleep past the hour of 7:00am, then good luck, as the staff changing the rooms have their radios (walkie-talkies) set to max/11, and they don't care who hears them. REALLY annoying. We asked for them to turn them down, but no luck. TURN THEM DOWN!

Reception staff were all really nice, courteous and the bell-boys too, really helpful and smiley.

Overall, a pleasant stay. As you can see, I had a few 'issues' but nothing crippling. You can certainly find somewhere for same price, slightly better. However, if they just addressed these issues I would come again without a doubt, and this would be a 4 star review.

Room Tip: If you want to go to Ko Phi Phi for the day, you're up against it as there are only about 2 sche...

Buri Tara Resort is at the beginning of a narrow street which has other hotels like The Small Hotel, RedGinger, Ananta Burin, Apasari, Centara Anda Dhavi, Aree Tara. It shares the back fence with the Krabi La Playa. It is about 100-meter walk west to Nopparat Thara Beach, and 600-meter walk east to Ao Nang Beach. Buri Tara opened in 2006 and had 70 rooms over 5 floors, with elevators in the front and back sections.

From Krabi airport to Buri Tara, a private car would cost THB600, while the bus would be THB150/pax. However, the bus journey was excruciating long (more than 1 hour), waiting for passengers, stopping at bus station, ferry stations, and hotels along the way. On the return journey from hotel to airport, we booked the hotel minivan at THB500, and shared it with another couple, working out to THB125/pax, and took only 25mins without any stop.

We booked 4D3N Superior room through Agoda at SGD50/night without breakfast, and were upgraded to a Deluxe pool view room on 2nd Floor, with balcony facing the pool. The room was spacious, clean, good lay-out, good lighting, although parts were showing its age, with wood varnish coming off on table and door. The toilet was big, with 2 wash basins, long bath, separate shower booth. Room had a Sony LCD TV, mini safe, mini fridge, kettle, hairdryer, shampoo, shower gel, 2 bottles water free each day, but no toothbrush.

We took breakfast just once at the hotel’s Tara Restaurant, paying THB200/pax. There was a small buffet of noodle, fried rice, sausage, scrambled egg, porridge, cereals, juices, fruits. Nothing fantastic, but edible. In comparison, the breakfast at the RedGinger across the road was THB400, and a plate of fried rice at a roadside café was THB130. Desktop computers were available at a corner of the restaurant at THB50 for 30mins, the same charges for wifi if you used your own laptop.

The small shops and cafés on this street were expensive. If you are walking towards Ao Nang Beach, buy your stuff at 7-11 and the minimarts there.

A good place to eat was the Wan Sai Seafood at the pier for longtail boats to Railay, on the south end of Nopparat Thara Beach, just 100 meters walk from Buri Tara. There was good sunset view, extensive menu and good food (noodle dishes at THB70, prawn/fish dishes from THB150).

Although the hotel reception staff also sold tours, we decided to take our chances with the travel booths at Ao Nang, and booked a THB400/pax 4-island tour on a longtail boat. The fishes were colorful, but the corals were mostly dead.

The staff at Buri Tara were extremely helpful and very friendly. The room was really clean, and open feeling. Having a refrigerator in the room came in very handy. The only downside of staying here was the hotel restaurant. The service was fine, but it felt like none of the staff knew what was going on and all the food we had tasted freezer burnt. There are too many good restaurants within a ten minute walk to eat hotel food.

Stayed here with my boyfriend for a week and all I can say was it was paradise! The rooms were spotless, roomy and we had some stepladders from our terrace to get into the refreshing pool!
We treated ourselves to a massage which was approx £4 each in english money and very professional!
Hotel has everything you need, spacious comfortable modern rooms. Lovely decking to sunbath on and good sized pool. Location was excellent more or less right on the paradise quiet beach!
Loved Krabi, very relaxing and chilled place with nice restuarants.

Would defo go back to this hotel!
