Andamanee Boutique Resort
Ranked #67 of 111 Hotels in Ao Nang
Reviewed March 9, 2007

We stayed at Andamanee for 4 days in feb 07.
Our first impression was that this was a quiet and nice place.
When we tried to find a place to buy some water, snakcs, etc , we realised how far the hotel was located from "civilisation"
The prices was extremely high in the minibar and they forgot to refill the minibar and try too charge us several times for the same beer/mineralwater.
The breakfast was poor and every morning they forgot our orders.
They did not refill food and plates, etc when it was empty.
Some of the staff was friendly and serviceminded, but not the management (3 sisters)
We reservated two Keangpaa Deluxe rooms and already the first day we was asked to move to another room. This happend also the last nigt, but then we said no because we have small children.
The last day we was told that we could keep the rooms until two a`clock and the kids enjoyed in the swimmingpool when the reception call and said we should been out, half and our ago.
When we cheked out from the hotel, my wife was accused for steeling a bathrobe and we was not allowed to leave the hotel before we could explain the missing bathrobe.
I got angry and told them to chek our luggage if they did not belived us. They would not.
When we leave the hotel, we really felt it has been an absurd experience/stay.

We were originally booked in to another resort for our short break, but due to overbooking we were asked to move to the Andamanee.

At first the Andamanee held up its side of the bargain ... we were allocated a junior suite with outside bathroom and huge bedroom all on the 1st floor. The bed was a traditional thai longboat with a mattress fitted in the widest part ... very funky. Throughout the accommodation was modern, clean and well maintained. The pool was particularly impressive with a swim up section.

However, we were less impressed with the location and its claims as being a boutique spa resort. It was in a ruralesque location down an unmade and unlit road, outside of the Ao Nang resort, so not good for walking and shopping. Breakfast choice was limited and our "cooked" eggs turned up cold at the table. The bed although interesting gave a poor nights sleep due to its hard mattress.

Overall we were impressed with the polite and friendly staff, the quality of furnishings in the resort and the considerable efforts made by the resort owner to accommodate us at the last minute.

The resort would be good for families due to its excellent swimming pool and its quiet location, but not good for romantic couples wishing to enjoy a sunset walk along the beach!

We have short stay at Andamanee in Feb 07. This is a family-run hotel located about 1km away from Nopparat beach and 3 Km from Ao Nang town.

Pros: Hotel is very new (less than a year old), Staffs are friendly, Surrounding are quiet.

Cons: Too pricey, Hotel is under staffed (lot time counter are not manned), location are too remote (problem getting a taxis to town), limited facilities (Swimming pool + a restaurant), breakfast is really bad.

this is a new hotel, that proclaims it is 4 star....for the furnishing i would feel that it is only 3 instead of 4.

do not be decieved by the pictures and new settings...the way to a great holiday would be very dependant on the other factors....

The hotel is new and great, however the following pointers certainly affect the overall standing.

LIKES

1. New, just opened in december 2006

DISLIKES

1. Expensive, not worth the price tag

2. Inaccessible, hidden in a very quite corner near to ST AGNES CHURCH

3. Everything in hotel is expensive....a can of beer in minibar is $120THB, they don't call TUK TUK for customers.... only taxi which cost $200THB

4. Breakfast was terrible, the only buffet selection was coffee, tea, bread and fruits (watermelon and pineapple)...all these often were not replenished unless requested. As for the normal bacon and eggs....its two eggs and two bacons. Wonderful place for those whom are on diet!!!

5. $$$$$ minded staff - all in the minds of the 3 sisters are to just sliced the petty thai baht from you..........not to mentioned the occassional evil smiles. Prices qouted by the sisters are inconsistant....and they don't communicate....i paid for my transfer but they would still insist you did not even on the day of checking out...haiz

6. Understaff - often a times you would need to wait on either food or enquires from the hotel. Must be a scheme to cut cost......

7. Cicadas and mosquitoes in the night - there are a plenty of mozzies to go around, and unless you snore or a heavy sleeper you would not noticed the cicadas sound in the night....

8. Lack of securirty - to my astonishment and surprised to find that there is no one after 12 in the night. The reception would be closed, as the 3 sisters would be sleeping in the office and all staffs are gone....kinda errie especially so that this is very out of place...

9. No gym....the only exercise regime you would find is to swim in the small pool with the kids...

10. No spa - anyway even if there is...it would be throat cutting price.

11. Only 2 free shuttle serives - you can sense how their scheme had worked by the look of the queue as the only way out of the resort is either you book a taxi ($200) or a bike / car

12. Too little sun bed - talk about first come first serve.....many a times you can see people reserving their sunbeds with towels as early as 0700hrs, by 0900hrs its just pure luck you would get one.

13. No beach towel in pool, as its only given in the room - only 2!!!! So sorry if you wish to cover the whole sunbed....you got to use your own towels

14. Shower - tend to spray too outwards leaving the bathroom pretty wet, not to mentioned that it would often flood the shower room as the discharge rate for the sink is too slow.

Overall, this is a new place and certainly do not even deserved a 2 star....the 3 sisters are really hardworking, you can see them putting in effort and working their [---] off. However, working hard and not putting in sincere effort to understand the needs of the customers is useless......

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel for 10 days in Jan '07and would recommend it to any-one who likes a small-scale, family-run establishment. The hotel is sparkling-new, very clean, nicely decorated with a lot of wood and gives the visitor the Thai experience- including a bundle of multi-coloured cloths just above our bed to keep good spirits happy, according to local custom, most visible in the lovingly decked-out gondolas that ply the Thai waters. The bathroom was beautiful, in vivid Mediterranean terracotta, oker and crimson-red colours, designer-style with a wonderful rain-emulating shower, complete with sea-pebbles to give a bathe-in-nature feeling. We found the hotel staff very friendly and the service very good and personalised, the way it still is in small, countryside hotels and relais in Southern Europe. This was a welcome change from bigger, anonymous or chain-hotels where the client is simply a credit-card account. The breakfast was very freshly prepared , good range and on days with fewer guests personally served at your table according to your wishes. We tried the restaurant three times and got excellent Thai dishes, far better than in town.
The owner Sue and her team of young colleagues will do their best. The location of the hotel at Nopparat Tara is not exacly central, at the periphery of Ao-Nang where all the action takes place. A taxi-ride from the hotel costs 200THB and a tuk-tuk back 50THB per person. The name of the hotel " Boutique" and "Spa" is slightly exaggerated for European standards and the hotel did not actually have a spa yet, as just opened. However, it is a very good 3 *plus hotel, above average decor and service and very hospitable!

We stayed here over the the New Year holiday. Our reaction was mixed. Our room had never been used, which was nice. However, the maid service was not consistent. Our bathroom and floors were not cleaned everyday and our towels were not changed everyday. The service was average, but could have been a lot better if the workers knew more English. We were there for the New Years celebration, which was a huge disappointment. We paid close to $50 a person and the food was poor to medicore. There wasn't enough and that price only included 1 free beverage. The entertainment was poor and contrived. Breakfast buffet was fine for one day. However, the buffet selection was so poor that you were bored by the third day. As well, there wasn't always enough food at the breakfast buffet, nor was it all completely cooked properly. The hotel says they are a resort with a spa, but there is no spa on site. Very limited services. Lastly, the location is poor. You need to rent a motorscooter to enjoy the area. Although, it was nice to be so far from town during New Year's Eve because our resort was quiet and peaceful. All and all, the resort was nice because it was new, but I would not stay there again. I felt that it was not worth the money we spent.

We were excited to try this new resort but we were disappointed with the owner's rude attitude.

The money-grubbing owner gives this new resort a bad name and poor impression. She is curt, rude, money-faced and she overcharges guests - she tried to dishonestly charge us extra for wine we did not order. She insists on making guests pay 3% credit card charge for hotel bill which is normally absorbed by other hotels and upfront payment upon check-in. When we pointed out that normally for other hotels, guests pay on check out, and hotels absorb the credit card charges, she gave a black face. Good customer service is the last thing on her mind.

Exhorbitant New Year's Day Gala dinner at $2700 thai baht, which was compulsory for all guests - turned out the gala dinner served lousy food for the rip-off price, started 1 hour late, poor guests had to queue half-hour for bbq buffet, even plain water is not included! Lousy location, inaccessible - you need to pay $200 baht per trip to get to Ao Nang beach. The 'Lakeside view' room is a joke - only a small pond view, noisy loud insects disturbed our sleep.

Fortunately the rest of the staff at this resort are very polite, helpful and friendly, unlike the owner. To be fair, the rooms are clean, new, decent and the pool is nice. We will surely give this resort a miss next time we visit krabi - the hotels located directly on Ao Nang beach are more accessible and they have more friendly owners.
