I took my boyfriend away in February for his 30th birthday and we had the most incredible time at the Central Krabi Bay Resort...we didn't want to come home!!

Our holiday at Central Krabi Bay started with a cocktail and fresh towel in their mainland reception base which is where we were checked in. We were then escorted to the beach where our speed boat awaited us! As we drove into the bay of the resort we were taken back by its scenerary, it was stunning! We couldn't wait to get off the boat.

The rooms were absolutely gorgeous, we had a spa on our balcony and sat up in it every evening when the sun set, well worth the extra dough! One night my boyfriend paid for the spa girls to come and decorate it with hundreds and hundreds of petals, so we sat back with Champagne and chocolate cake and enjoyed!!

The food at the hotel was lovely, with a really wide variety. The prices weren't too expenisve as far as hotels go - on average it was about £40-50 for two/three courses and a bottle of wine. If you go into the town then its probably half the price but you don't get the romantic atmosphere of the resort. One night we ate at the resorts beach front restuarant and had three musicians sing to us, it was lovely. The bar was really great too, with lovely cocktails and and a fantatsic acquarium.

Overall we had a brilliant time at the resort, the staff were always very friendly and helpful and the facilities were excellent, it was a shame we had to come home!

We stayed at Central Krabi in December and had a wonderful 6 days. Our arrival at the resort was very easy and the in-town check in very efficient. We were made to feel welcome, offered a drink and the arrival of the boat to pick us up was prompt. Having to get the boat around the bay to the resort really was great fun and we never had any problems with timing or being able to get on the boat into town in the evenings, and besides the walk over the top of the cliff back to the resort after an evening out was something of an adventure and has to be tried at least once.

The room was great, the bathroom excellent, the food in the thai restuarant was delicious (though we also ate at some very good restaurants in town - try 'boatnoodle', a real local haunt with some of the best food we've eaten in Thailand).

It is true that not all of the staff speak perfect English, but this never caused a major problem, there was always someone around who did and they were always extremely friendly.

Krabi's also an excellent base from which to explore the neighbouring beaches and islands (such as those in The Beach, James Bond etc). The scuba diving company who come to the hotel several days a week were excellent and we spent a wonderful day diving here too.

Fantastic hotel with magnificent rooms. Food was superb and very reasonably priced. Beach is not up to the standards of Phuket (Kata Noi) but the setting is magical. Spa is first rate. Diving was fine and easily arranged with the on-site company . Would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a romantic stay.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 5 days in February. Yes, I probably should have taken heed of the other reviews before going ahead, but I thought "the rooms look nice on the web, the service can't be that bad - surely it's just some uptight tourists unused to Asia". No.

Our first impression wasn't great, as we were shown to the hotel's "in town" check in lounge, only to be sitting around for almost 1.5 hours before the boat was ready to take us to the resort. This was the case even though the resort specifically emailed us in advance to ask for our flight times to ensure that a boat would be ready. When we (and the other 6 guests with pre-booked transfers) asked about the delay, we were told that they had too many people unexpectedly turn up for their hourly shuttle service, so they had used our boat to ferry them around instead.

When we did get to our boat (shallow longtail), we had to wade out through waist-high water on the beach to hop aboard. Then the boat was overloaded to the point where several small waves came in drenching the floor of the boat where everyone's suitcases were lying. Turning up to the resort 2 hours late with wet clothes and wet suitcases wasn't the best start.

We'd paid extra to get club access (don't bother), but when we turned up at the club, the staff said that we weren't in their system and asked that we leave. Explaining our situation was ineffective until we asked to speak to the manager (who did resolve the issue).

We asked for an ice bucket and 2 champagne glasses one evening and when the housekeeper turned up with no ice bucket and red wine glasses, we apologised, told him what we'd actually ordered and asked him to bring that instead. No problem, except that the housekeeper muttered something under his breath as he went off. My Thai's not that good, but I don't think it was complimentary.

We only ate 1 dinner at the resort, and by this time my wife and I had started to see the funny side of things (we had to laugh, or else go mad). Each of the 6 tables sitting around us at dinner complained to the staff, and 2 of them then complained to the manager. One Japanese couple ordered the same main dish each, but the wife's order came out wrong 3 times in a row. After giving up and just sharing her husband's meal, the bill came and they had been charged for the 2 meals.

When we were checking our bill for the whole stay, we noticed that they had randomly charged us 2 different room rates for the 5 nights, even though we were on the same internet rate for the entire stay. We queried this on check-out and were told, "oops we made a mistake - now we'll charge you the higher rate for all your nights".

Having said all this, the resort itself is beautiful and the rooms are great. We had a spa room, which had nice views over the beach, and used the outdoor spa on the balcony a couple of times.

The setting with the cliffs behind is very dramatic, and the beach is nice and private.

The location is great for those that like to get out and try different restaurants, do some shopping etc. Although you're very close to Ao Nang, the resort is cut off by the cliffs, so it feels secluded. Just make sure you book your times on the ferry service.

Overall, disappointed with the hotel. This was really brought home to us after we left Krabi and went to Pattaya. The hotel we stayed at there was less than 2/3 the price, but just as beautiful and had amazing service. Will write about that one next...
