“Paradise resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2009

We stayed here for 1 week in April and had a fabulous holiday. Excellent 5* resort which can only be reached by the hotel boat. Quiet and relaxing. Food exceptional. Fabulous breakfasts and a good choice of restaurants within this exclusive resort. The boat can take you in to town to eat which is a cheaper option but we did this only one evening during our stay. Excellent accomodation. We booked a room with a hot tub on the balcony which had fabulous views and would thoroughly recommend. All rooms had wonderful sea views. Staff more than helpful and always dressed immaculate with female staff in an array of a Thai silk outfits. Mainly couples in this resort and would probably not recommend for children. I cant wait to return one day, you certainly wont be dissapointed...its stunning in all ways

We stayed at the Centara, Krabi from the 18th of June until 22nd of June 2009 for my fathers 60th Birthday. We had booked the hotel online totally sold on the images which show the gorgeous views and the incredible blue Andaman Sea.
On reaching the hotel via speed boat at 9.00 pm in the night we were not so plesantly shocked to see a moving pontoon in the place of a fixed Jetty which basically means that your riding waves in the middle of the sea on a moving platform with nothing to hold on to.. Its scary and we did have the occassional fall before getting on dry land. The Website or nor previous communication mentioned this. The staff were not aplologetic or very helpful when my mother fell flat face onto the jetty totallly in tears.. bruised and in serious pain

We checked in really late after this intial mishap and did ask to see the GM - Unfortunately we tried this during the entire trip and did not once get to meet him once .

The hotel property is beautiful and one of the nicer ones in Krabi with complete picture postcard views from your room- What the hotel is not is :

Great at making any cocktails- We returned ours evertime at least twice before we practically wrote down a recipe

Informative- The conceirge and guest relations are not the most helpful. You need a boat to get around the Islands and the hotel really does not tell you how to get one if your not interested in the hotel provided one ( which is 4 times the regular cost). Ask around other hotel guests instead if you dont want to be ripped off

Helpful- At 11.O0 pm on our last night in the hotel, we come back to a flooded room with our stuff floating all around. We called houskeeping only to be told we would need to wait for another hour to get it sorted. Closer to midnight by which time i was super frustrated, they offered us another room- When moving in there we were given twin beds for my husband and me. I called in frustration but the guest relations lady tells me ( with not apologies at the mistake) that she didnt think it was that big a deal and she would move me ( again!) if I wanted a double bed.

I could go on about the bad service we had every day- right from the booking lady at the Spa, to the buggy service, to the non availaility of getting out of the hotel...

Basically the Centara is a hotel with a great view, a beautiful beach, a super japenense restaraunt and awful service. I would go back for a drink or a meal but not to stay there.

Stayed with my wife from 9th-12th June 2009. Booked the Spa Deluxe Ocean Facing-The Club and the view is unbelievable. The staffs were extremely friendly and helpful. The service was very prompt although requesting for ice took about 45mins to arrive. The floating jetty was an experience to remember especially when the sea was rather rough during the past 2 days of our stay. The food and price in the hotel is on par with those served in Singapore. The club lounge is well furnished with internet access for 30mins per day. Snacks and drinks were served throughout the day but be sure to go there early as they did not replenish the food and we had to manage with the leftovers. However if you take the time to visit Ao Nang, go for local food as they are of better quality compared to Western food and cheaper too. You could join a chartered island hopping there for about THB800 per person by speedboat with lunch which is not a bad deal. We were blessed with a wonderful weather as we thought it was going to rain throughout our stay according to the weather forecast. The monkey trail is challenging, it took about 30mins from the resort to Ao Nang Town. Just don't take the trail during the night as the steps are on the steep cliff. As our flight only operated from Phuket Airport, it will take 2-1/2 hours by mini-bus and around 15mins from the pier to the resort. Before we left for this resort, the negative reviews provided gave us the horrifying impression that we had made a grave mistake! But thankfully, everything turned out so well that we are planning our trip there again!

My wife and I, together with our two children aged 7 & 10, stayed for three nights at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi in early June. This was our second stay at Centara having stayed for the same duration last year. Both times we commenced our holiday in Thailand in Patong.
Our return visit to Centara was for a number of reasons but primarily given regard for the sensational location, superbly appointed accommodation and garden and the ability to totally relax in an environment where it is conducive to do so i.e. reasonably secluded from outside influences. Also, we treat these three nights at Centara as a 'holiday inside of a holiday'
Upon our latest return, we were promptly delivered to the hotel via speed boat after a seem-less 'check in' process in Ao Nang. We were greeted by the newly appointed General Manager named Thomas after tackling the floating pontoon pier - what a BLAST, the kids loved it. Of course, the Centara staff took care of our luggage without a second thought.
We were shown to our room which was an ocean facing room high up on the hill with a view to die for. The rooms are so well appointed and are, without a doubt, of a 5* standard and were once again spotlessly maintained in this manner during our stay.
We ate every meal and snack at the hotel. Whilst the food prices were literally double what we paid in a 4* hotel in Patong, there are 4 restaurants to choose from, all having a multitude of choices and prices, so we walked away satisfied albeit with a little less cash in the pocket. The quality of the food was typically very good - special mention goes out to the Surf and Turf Buffet and the buffet breakfast each morning (fantastic in both cases).
We found that the staff this year were outstanding, each and every one carried a smile and always warmly greeted us with 'Sawasdee' to which we responded. We spoke regularly with Thomas as well as others. A new trainee by the name of Miguel was always offering a smile and inquired of our stay several times a day. Upon our departure, the pier was like surfing a wave at Waikiki Beach - nonetheless, at least 20 staff (including the management group) were on hand to assist us to the end of the pier.
Finally, with respect to other TA comments on this resort, I am astounded by how critical some people get with respect to the check in process, speed boat transfer, the floating pier, the monkey trail, the unhelpful staff, inflated prices and of course the length of walk to some rooms (which we needed after the overindulgence on the range of food on offer at breakfast). The comments on these elements are well reported on this site so if you are not up for the challenge, or indeed cannot take this resort for the beautiful place it is, then you should go elsewhere.
We shall once again return in future.

just returned fron a 10 night stay at the centara. Having read the mixed reviews after booking we were a little apprehensive about it . We booked with tropical collections .waiting for us at the airport on arrival was a gentleman who took us straight to our transport. We arrived at centara foyer outside the resort where we were giving cold drinks cold towels and made to feel very welcome. after catching the boat to centara we were helped off the boat and walked down the jetty by very helpful staff. The jetty was unstable but fun.

We upgraded our room before getting to the resort ,to an occean view spa room . in retrospect this wasnt necessary as the other room were equally spacious just without the spa bath ,but taking the reviews to heart we thought we would be better off going for an upgrade. rooms were beautiful and clean.

Monkey trail into Ao Nany quite steep in parts bit ricketty but we found this fun, but not suitable for old or disabled

The resturants were first class the service in the resturant was first class and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff
The resort is isolated but still within 10 min outside Ao Nang but we knew this before we booked it as this was want we wanted !! if you want karooke live music this is not the place for you .

The pool was lovely ,gentleman with towels was always on hand ,staff at on the rocks would serve you drinks at the pool on regular basis . and lunch and dinner was served promptly.

We are not novice travellers we travel long haul 2/3 times annually and always stay 5*.It makes me angry that many people have given the resort such bad reviews especially as the staff were so nice. We witness few people being rude to staff ,without so much as a please and thank you some not even raising their head to acknowledge their food had been placed on the table . so rude......!!!!!!!!!

This is not a large sprawling grand resort with large conference halls ,but a beautiful relaxing, serene place to stay.

Upon arrival, we checked in 'on the mainland' and had to take a speedboat to the resort as it's located on a remote part of the mainland that can only be accessed by boat or hiking a small mountain!
When we arrived, the jetty was a bit of an experience but nothing to deter us.
We got to our room and it was spotlessly clean, open and grand!
All room (or should I say chalets) are ocean facing pretty much and we paid for a spa on our balcony, an added extra.
The main swimming pool was always clean and fresh and not too cold either, but cold enough to cool off in if you need to. The good thing aboutn the pool is it is one depth all the way through so those who aren't confident swimmers can feel at ease and they even have seating areas in certain sections of the pool.
The restaurants were clean, the service was excellent and the food was GREAT!
If you can stretch to it, take 'the club' as this includes 2 items of laundry per day, 30 minutes broadband use in the lounge, 1 hour free 'cocktails' (actually it is spirits with mixer and wine or soft drinks) in the lounge and free snacks all day in the lounge. A great way to start your evening.
Overall, this place we could not fault and we enjoyed the stay very much, just mind those monkeys (only kidding)!

We just got back from spending 7 nights in Krabi at the Centara Grand Beach Resort in Krabi. I hadn't read any of the reviews here on TA and therefore we went to this resort and on our trip without any preconceived ideas. I thought I would post my wife review considering our experience there and share it with everyone.
We had one of the rooms with the hot tub on the balcony - and the room was amazing. We found no fault with our room or the physical resort itself. The resort has amazing facilities and we enjoyed the beach, the pool and our room!
We arranged our own tax to the mainland check-in point, and then had to wait there about 1 hour before they took us to the resort's boat. The water was very choppy on this day and the experience on the floating jetty was ineterstsing but fun.
We haven't travelled too much outside of Australia so we didn't know what to expect at a resort outside of Australia. We have always heard the Thai's are a friendly lot and we found that to be the case. However for some reason the service at this resort was lacking. why, well here is a list:
- Always had to approach staff for assistance/help - they never asked you if you wanted/needed help
- When you asked them for help or assistance, they made you feel like you were an inconvenience/nuisance
- We were made to wait for more than 50 minutes for food to be served at our one and only night dining at the Rim Saai restaurant. And when we finally got it it was not hot and wasn't anything to write home about.
- We regularly had to wait for more than 20 minutes to receive our drinks when ordered and the place was not even that busy!
- We always had to go and seek towels for use at the pool - nobody could ever be found when you needed them
- We ordered room service on our first night and it came about an hour later and was just lukewarm and soggy - and they forgot to bring the drinks!
Having said all that, we did have a great time, went on the 4 Island day trip and loved the Hong Islands.
There was only a minor hassle with the bill when checking out as they appear to have double-charged us for a meal at the Lotus Court restaurant but it was quickly fixed.
Would we stay there again? Maybe. Would we consider other resorts in Krabi next time instead. Definitely.
Liked: location, room, isolation
Disliked: Poor service, staff
