Slight hiccup when we arrived but quickly resolved by Mark, I hope he's still there - funny, polite, knowledgeable. Although we were hit with bad weather, the people we met, the accommodations, grounds, a wet walk through the monkey trail and crazy boat ride off the resort were a lot of fun!

This hotel has exceeded all expectations! Located stunningly in a private bay; rooms and service was second to none! Perfect check in with ice cold towels and refreshment; and the rooms in particular are ahead of similar properties in Thailand. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The one thing you should know is that mainland is only accessible via monkey trail or speed boat (free of charge) so it requires some organisation - did not bother us but feel you should know that.

Room Tip: This was the one hotel with only good rooms!

First impression as the boat approached the jetty was amazing and remained amazing throughout our whole stay.

We stayed in room 1265 in Dec 13 for 13 nights. Our room was not ready when we arrived but we were informed that we could use the showers in the gym area which we did do to change out of the clothes that we travelled in and took a tour of the hotel ourselves. We didn't have to wait too long and when we got you our room we were more than happy.

The staff were very attentive, we ate in the Thai restaurant, On the Rocks, Lotus Court and my husband surprised me with a meal on the beach for my birthday. The hotel also arranged for a lovely birthday cake too which was delicious. Great shout out to Bo in the Lotus Court, very pleasant and helpful man.

We used the monkey trail twice to get to Ao Nang, yes it is steep, yes it is uneven and yes you do sweat by the time you get to the other side, but to be that close to the monkeys is amazing. I could of spent hours just watching them play.

We had one visit from the monkeys to our balcony one morning, which again was amazing for me. It was hilarious to see them run around and try and get into your rooms, and even funnier to see them slide down the pillars of the buildings. There are notices to keep your doors locked, if you do that then you will not have any hassle with them.

We used he hotel spa on my birthday. The treatments were amazing and yes they are dearer that what you get in Ao Nang which is what you have to expect.

We have signed up to the Centara Card as we will definitely be staying at another Centara hotel again in the future.......and look forward to it too.

We were very impressed with our welcome at the pier and this followed all the way through to arrival at the resort and being showed our fabulous ocean view room with jacuzzi. The arrival by boat was amazing when suddenly after 8 mins you catch first sight of the resort and we could not believe its location and its beauty.

I keep reading the negative reviews about the poor location - so why do these people not do the research like we do ( its part of our holiday!) and be prepared for it and book it or just stay elsewhere and shut up.We booked it precisely for its unspoiled location and quietness.
We had no problem with the location, booking boats or long tails to Ao Nang or elsewhere or walking around the monkey trail or wading though the low tide around the headland to the gritty nasty Ao Nang beach with its lines of massage huts and with a very nasty stinking stream to wade over.( make sure you have a shower after this)
We much prefered the Centara Grand beach which was clean and because of its location did not have hoards of visitors visiting for the day.

The hotel is also a high end hotel not a Holiday Inn so seasoned travellers have no reason to expect anything other than the prices this resort charges for food and beverage.Others should stay at Ao Nang and there are plenty of cheap resorts opposite McDonalds to suit their tastes and budgets.

Not everything is perfect and we had problems with maintenance issues which were eventually professionally handled and apologies made after a frustrating delay.

There were problems with the inconsistency of the On the Rocks service and hopefully this will be sorted for our next visit. The new food and beverage director was making a difference whlist we were there. We did have a London friend who is now based in Phuket and he drove over for the day and stupidly arrived with a little dog.As the hotel quite rightly does not accept dogs we camped out on the beach and had a great waiter from On the Rocks bring a tray of lunch over to us on the beach- full marks for service!

We loved the breakfast choice and some of the daily specials especially the eggs benedict and loved sitting outdoors having our breakfast watching the fish in the pools.

The Thai restaurant was great and so was the manager and we had many good meals there. The Lotus restaurant was good too but a bit more formal.

We used the Spa on an off day weather wise and had good facials and other treatments - it was great pampering.

Our room was spacious and with sun beds and dining table and chairs outdoors it was a great place to spend time chilling in addition to the beach area. Our maid was super with a good sense of humour and she kept it spotless.

We used the hotel Kayaks and also loved swimming off the beach in the lovely warm water.

The gardens are fabulous and we saw a number of exotic birds living there

Ao Nang offers a great choice of restaurants and we used to alternate between the hotel and the town for dinner. You take a Tuk Tuk into town - about 80 baht -£1.60 each way from the pier and they know the boat times and there are always plenty waiting. The town is only 6 or 7 mins away.If you miss the boat back and don't fancy the monkey trail you can take a long tail boat from the beach - be prepared to wade to it though!

We have already booked our next stay in December this year and cannot wait to revisit this magical location.

Dear Paul W

Thank you for sharing your comments following your recent stay at our resort.

We were all pleased to read you enjoyed your overall stay and that you had done your research before you arrived and knew what to expect.

Yes our location is the most unique aspect of our resort, we are very fortunate to be located in our private bay only accessible by boat.

We acknowledge we have some issues with inconsistent service and as you have rightly pointed out, we are working on improving this. I was pleased to read once you rose some issues that the staff did their best to satisfy your requests.

Once again thank your for your kind support and recognition and we look forward to welcoming you back later this year.

We had a week here in January and found it to be a beautiful location - yes it is secluded but that's a good thing. Other beaches we visited in the area were completely packed. Centara's beach is quiet, clean and relaxing.
As for the grumbles about the staff, you are in Thailand, make a bit more effort to communicate your needs rather than expecting perfect English. We had no problems getting food and drinks around the pool area, as we were willing to go the short distance to the restaurant area to order when necessary and our order was always delivered in a timely and friendly manner (we were expecting to wait hours given some of the complaints on this site, but it didn't happen). Yes it's a bit of a challenge to get in and out - excellent feature as it means it's private and quiet. Ao Nang is a busy, grotty town with an uneasy vibe and over-run with tourists and touts, so being away from there was a blessing. We used the monkey trail on three occasions, and while it is certainly steep and uneven in parts if you take your time it is quite a rewarding experience.
The room was clean and comfortable. We were supplied with more bottled water than we could use and the room service was seamless. The breakfasts were very good with a wide selection of hot and cold food. We ate at the Thai restaurant twice and found the food and service to be very good and the prices reasonable. The food and service from On the Rocks was also good. Yes it is cheaper in Ao Nang but the quality of the restaurants there is poor. We went to some of the most popular restaurants in Ao Nang which were consistently ordinary.
As for the lack of wifi in the rooms, what a nice break from the real world!
Centara is located in a beautiful bay between two points with steep cliffs all around, a great view from the pool and from the sea - both of which were very nice to swim in. Kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming there was a delight. Nice sunsets especially when viewed while swimming or lying near the beach. The surrounding beaches and islands are really gorgeous but very busy at this time of year.
We would recommend this resort if you are looking for a scenic, relaxing and peaceful holiday.

We ahve stayed a week in January 2014 in this Hotel. This was the second time in our life, but we are sure the last.

Between the two visits passed 8 years. Not much has happend. he Hotel would need renovation, the sunbeds are used and old, the matraces are actually dirty.
The bathroom and all wood furniture in the room show the years already.

The biggest problem what we have had is the service quality. The staff is total "ignorant" you ahve a feeling they are smiling and thinking "I do not care what you think and what you want".
It seems they are not happy to serve the guest, they do it because this is their job.
The Thai restaurant was one of our "best service" experience. We have been there and waited 40 minutes for getting the menu, we got our drinks after 1 hour, our food after 1,5 hour.
After we have talked to the manager, at least they apologised and did not charge anything for the food.

There was also not easy to get something to drink if you stay at your sunbed. Actually service was available only if they had free time.

All in all we woul not recommend this Hotel to somebody who is looking for a high quality stay in Krabi.

Dear Noemi F

Thank you for sharing your comments following your recent stay at our resort.

I was disappointed to read you did not enjoy your return stay and surprised at your comments about the renovation as the rooms were all only recently renovated (completed October 2013) New sunbeds have arrived and were installed this week around the pool area.

Please accept my apologies that the level of service in the outlets did not meet your expectation on this occasion and for the lasting impression this has left with you. We will continue to work hard to improve our product and service to meet the expectation of all our guests.

Once again thank your for your feedback.

Yours sincerely, David Martens
