The resort is very beautiful. Watching sunset at its private beach is a 'must do' activity if staying in this resort. Rooms are spacious with big balconies, but tooth brush n tooth paste are not provided. There are a few restaurants in the resort. Apart fr the Japanese restaurant, the others are quite ok. Boat transfer to and from the resort are not very frequent. It's better to make reservation in advance.

We stayed at this resort for our first anniversary.

Very impressed with the service and overall stay.

When we reached the resort, our room was not ready. We were taken to the club lounge where we could enjoy some snacks and drinks.

We were informed that this resort was built on a nature reserve, so it's possible we might encounter wild birds, lizards and monkeys. This actually alarmed me - thankfully, we never saw any.

The only issue we had was at dinner on the first night. We had booked half-board. When they took our room number, we expected them to know our board status. This was not the case. We were given an a la carte menu and forced to pay for our meal at the end. Perhaps it's our fault, but we didn't realise that we had to inform them of our board status. They had separate menu's for those who had half-board, and full-board.

Breakfast was nice and had a wide variety.

Spa was lovely.

Beach was clean.

Room was a good size. Bathroom was massive. Rain shower head could have done with a descale as it was squirting in several directions causing the floor outside to get very wet.

This property is located in a totally breathtaking setting - a national park and World Heritage site. Dramatic cliffs rise behind the accommodation that comes with its own private beach with views out to the Andaman Sea. A real bonus for us was a visit by the long tailed spider monkeys who moved through the property one morning on their way to the monkey trail. The villas were top class as was the service. We chose the Relaxation Pool over the main pool as it seemed to be child free. The complimentary breakfast each day was of a very high standard. We also attended the Friday night buffet with entertainment - recommended. Because there is quite a steep climb to the rooms this property may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Access to the resort is a little tricky via the monkey trail or by boat to the floating dock. For us this was an added bit of fun but it did start to lose its allure after four days! Ao Nang night life and restaurants are close by and well worth a visit. We also took a shared tuk tuk to Krabi (much cheaper than a taxi) but found Krabi to have little appeal in comparison to Ao Nang.

Stayed at the wonderful Centara Grand from the 17th of August 2013 for 2 weeks. Room 1063 tour operator Kuoni.

Before we get to the review itself please read the following as it will greatly enhance your experience and manage your expectations.

The resort and transfers are really REALLY for the fit and able bodied only. You will need to be happy climbing in, out and along speed boats and happy to walk along the pontoon that acts as the dock for the hotel. Think fun fair wobbly road and you get the idea. On a positive side you will learn the important difference between a pontoon and a jetty

Once in the hotel it's the choice of steps and/or a longer route to your room via the road used by the club cars. I saw a few guests waiting to be picked up and taken to their rooms but I couldn't comment on the waiting times for this (nice service though)

The Monkey Trail is not part of the hotel so is not kept to the same standard. My wife and used the trail regularly and did not have any issues. My advice, take your time and watch where you step. All the hotel staff use this as the route in and out most days so it can't be that hard right? Think of it as a cardio work out in a nature park ;o)

The boat service is great, pre booking is used to prevent over crowding and any potential bun fights over who was here first. Service was great but remember to check the tides, extreme low tides mean the service will be cancelled as the boat can't get in. Apparently rough weather can cause this too.

Finally, The Monkeys! Please take note of the hotels requests, don't leave food out on your balcony or outside as otherwise the troop of Monkeys who live in there will pay you a visit (the resort is in a nature park so it's more their home than yours), lock your balcony doors too, they know how to open them! The Monkeys themselves are fairly peaceful and will leave you Alone, just be smart and don't eat food in front of them.

So finally to the review!

The check in was swift efficient and very friendly. A welcome cold towel and fruit juice were very nice touches and we were whisked to our room by club car in double quick time.

The resort itself is very clean and the buffet breakfast plentiful. This is served in the Lotus Court which gives you the option of indoor or outdoor eating. If you do choose outdoors please note that when the sun gets over the cliffs it gets very hot and humid very quick! So be prepared and be in the shade unless you are the most hardcore of sun bunnies!

Both pools were clean and the service was excellent at the sun loungers.

We ate at all the restaurants and found the food to be of very good quality, so if you are happy paying the premium for in resort eating you will not be disappointed. Try the ice cream in the lotus court! One serving is plenty for two.

There is also a rolling happy hour for the drinkers from one bar to another so plenty to be happy about ;o)

Overall excellent service, food, room, staff and location!

You can head into Ao Nang if you fancy a night out, the prices here are significantly cheaper than the resort but then again the overheads incurred match this so no surprises there.

If you go over the monkey trail during the day you will end up near the massage huts and The Last Fisherman bar. This area is really nice and by far my favourite area outside of the resort. Head to the Nong Nong massage for 1 hour of massage for £6! Then over to the Fisherman for drinks, they serve food here too which was fine.

We did two excursions on the trip, first to the emerald pool, hot springs and Tiger Cave Temple. The latter with a challenging 1200+ step ascent to the mountain top Temple that will make you appreciate just how easy the monkey trail is. SERIOUSLY don't attempt this unless you are physically fit, the steps are high and very steep in places.

We also went kayaking in the Mangrove Forest which was a magical experience, once again, if you are confident in a kayak you will love it! If you are a newbie or nervous I think the limestone caves may well freak you out.

We also went to the Night Market in Krabi Town for some local life, this was a wonderful experience, haggling abounds and there of lots of sights, sounds and smells to excite the senses.

All the above felt very safe and the people were all very friendly. The most basic command of Thai (essentially hello and thank you) was always greated with enthusiasm and gratitude.

So in summary, the best holiday my wife and I have had to date, pay heed to the caveats on the hotel and please use the monkey trail safely.

It's a great resort, beautiful country and a wonderful culture. We will be back again!

David, I know you see these, keep
up the good work and pass on our thanks to all your staff. A truly world class service from all. Alison and Marcus

The property for this hotel is great, they have their own beach, secluded from any other location, and mainly approachable only by boat. There's a monkey trail, which is a slightly adventurous walk for 20 minutes or so. Boats can take you there, but their own boat service is only available from Noparatthara pier, which is out of the way for people wanting to spend time at Ao Nang's main market street, where all the action happens.
Hotel staff was generally decent, but our first impression wasn't great since they gave us a horrible room with a view of the building in front of it, and though they had some empty rooms, it was quite a task convincing them to shift us to a better view, which they finally did.
Ideal for families who want to only relax, or for couples who want to get away from the hustle and lay on the beach. For younger couples, I'd suggest staying at a hotel in Ao Nang or at Railey, where they have connectivity and are probably also cheaper.
If you want to go out and enjoy the night life, there is no way you can get back to Centara, unless you charter a long tail boat, which is also extremely difficult and rates are exorbitant.
For backpackers and rock climbing lovers, I'd suggest Railey or Ton Sai beaches. There are boat ferries to all 3 - Ao Nang, Ton Sai and Railey. Only Centara, which is in between these, has no regular ferries, only its own boats with limited capacity that you ave to book hours or even a day in advance!

Room Tip: Try getting there early and picking a good room with a view. Online bookings can be misleading here...

You are correct to state that if people are looking for easy access to bars and night life in the local village then perhaps our resorts unique location is not the best suited for this.

Please accpet my apologies that the service did not meet your expectations, we will continue to try harder to meet all our guests expectations.
