My girlfriend and I stayed here for 10-nights, March 2014. We are both well-travelled and have stayed at a variety of hotels/resorts, so we have a pretty good depth of experience when it comes to expectations.
We read the reviews before leaving the UK, and some of then left us feeling concerned as to what we would find. I am happy to say that we really enjoyed our stay! I have had trouble reconciling some of the reviews to our experience. Are there areas of the hotel that could benefit from some attention? Yes; but the main reception/ pool areas are absolutely fine and so our room (description below). You would think from one description that the pool area was a dilapidated Soviet style pool from the 1950's, but it is most certainly not. The quite, child-free pool, is definitely a benefit for those who do not enjoy having other people's children swim into them!
There have been comments regarding the staff's communication skills. There are certain members of the team who should get their act together, but you will quickly learn who they are- just avoid them. The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. It is amazing how far using a few Thai words will go in helping you establish a rapport with them. Also, I noted, some guests spoke to the staff in such away that I am surprised they received any service at all. A little understanding and patience are all that are needed.
Hotel room: Our room was exactly as per the website. A decent sized and comfortable bed, mahogany floor, thai decoration, large shower and a wonderful balcony overlooking the swimming pools. I have no idea about the TV reception as we never turned it on-we were on holiday! The balcony was private and equipped with comfortable furniture, a great place for a sun-downer or that first cup of tea in the morning.
Location: It is away from the centre of Ao Nang and the beaches, but close enough to walk to either of the beaches/ restaurants and shops. It is very quiet at night. If the heat is too much for you to make the walk, not a problem, the Tuk-Tuks have a fixed price of THB60 (THB30pp). Across the road from the hotel are some restaurants, and I would strongly recommend walking down the stairs (follow the sign for an alternative route to AoNang Beach) to the Kodam Kitchen. Very reasonably priced for excellent MSG free Thai food! The hotel do push their Thai Buffet, but who can blame them? We had it one night, and it may not have been the best Thai we ate, but we had had a long excursion that day and it was a very easy option for us.
Would we stay there again? Absolutely!
