“Good place but not worth the price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

The resort is located away from the phi phi harbor and busy part of the island. This is both a good and bad thing. Good because it is quiet and secluded from the busy areas, and bad because everything is super expensive here. The only way to get here from the harbor is by boat and they charge exorbitant fees (1200Bhat) just to taxi you a short distance to and from the harbor/city. the other alternative which we did try but do not recommend is a 1-2hr hike through the jungle with hardly no path carved out (easy to get lost) and can only be attempted in day light. To go anywhere you have to get a boat and shell out atlases 1200Bhat.

Since this is a secluded away from the rest of the island, food, drink, boat trips everything is extremely overpriced since they know we do not have a choice.

The rooms itself were OK. Not worth the price. The bedroom was ok, very small but the bed and AC were good. the doors were old and insects could crawl in. The bathroom was a let down, the drainage system was not good and it always seem to stink. The plastic door would not close shut.

The owner Mr. Tuna himself is a nice and friendly guy.

The food at the restaurant was good. Tune himself cooks the food and it was pretty goos, though expensive.

Starting off, I have to say that after seeing other parts of the island and after we were able to change rooms, this place is not so bad in the end. We stayed there over NYE and a total of 5 nights.
However, I live in Thailand and would expect a lot more for the price we paid. I have to add though that PP in general is more expensive and people ask you a lot of money even for just a short boat ride - they can as it's the only way to get around.

The people:
Mr Tuna is indeed a very nice guy. Also the other staff are very helpful and welcoming. However they also know exactly what they can charge you.

The location:
The bungalows are located in Phi Phi island village, which is far from the main village on PP. That is good because it's quieter and bad because you have to take an extra long tail boat for a lot of money to reach the village - or a 1hr hike through the jungle which is not recommended when it's dark. The beaches are however cleaner and the water is nicer on this side of the island. The village also features a number of restaurants serving surprisingly very tasty food. Starting at THB150 for a fried rice in every restaurant this is however expensive for Thailand and makes it look like they all agree on the prices.

The room:
Starting with the good part: The place is rather new, is clean, has a comfortable bed and the aircon works. That's why we stayed there.
However: We booked a "deluxe" room, paid a deluxe price and I'm still wondering what was deluxe about it, apart from it being a little bigger than the others.
The bathroom is very basic, has a plastic door and floods when you take a shower. After a day we realized there isn't even a drain in the bathroom, so the water must disappear into the whole below the sink - after hours.
There's a single window in the room with no view facing the wall of the next bungalow, so no sunlight (see pictures).
The door of the bungalow has gaps so Mosquitos and other insects do get in (see pictures)
There was also no cleaning nor service during our first two nights.
On top of that, they also tried to charge us THB500 for an extra mattress, which I bargained down to 300.
After 2 nights we were able to move to another room with sunlight, however the rests was the same.
Finally, the rooms are just plain ugly (you might disagree). The whole thing is painted in green and includes some randomly selected cheap thai decoration (see pictures).

The restaurant:
It's just opposite the bungalows and the food is good - not great and expensive for what it is.
On top of that, as already described by other reviewers, you do need to watch your bill: They added 5 beers we didn't have and increased the prices of dishes compared to the menu.
We ate there twice and both times the bill was wrong. Service was lacking: one night we waited an hour and the other they brought us different food than ordered.
Tip: Only go there if there is no more than 1 table occupied and doublecheck the bill.

Other:
Slow Wifi and only at reception.

Conclusion:
We didn't enjoy the first two nights and only stayed because we were able to switch rooms and due to the lack of alternatives.
We felt ripped off during the whole stay on PP and this place is no exception (room, long tail boat, food, day trips). In the end we reluctantly agreed as this is I guess the price to pay for spending NYE on one of the worlds most popular holiday destinations.

Room Tip: Two of the so called "deluxe" rooms are behind the other bungalows and the windows don'...

First of all, for this price it does not get any better!

+ The owner of the hotel is extra nice and extremely helpful: thanks to him we took the boat back to the harbor for 200bath (instead of 1000 with the taxi boat), he went with us all the way the the harbor, then ask one of his friend to keep our luggage for a couple of hours while we were walking around... You really feel like you're welcomed by a friend.
+ The location is great

- If you're picky and looking for a nice resort it might not be the most suitable place, The door has a gap underneath, so I suggest on preparing some mosquito / insect repellent

I booked this place online and thought it would be good place to stay based on the price I was paying, seventy-five a night in mid dec, and the great reviews. The rooms and bed are clean, but the bathroom fixtures are a bit rusted. And the worst part was that the water in the Bathroom runs Dark BROWN! I had to leave the water running for a good 15 mins before the water was a somewhat clear color.
The doors on these huts also have gaps in them, so we got a lot of mosquitoes flying in. Which was not cool.

The people that run this place are really nice and run a really delicious restaurant across the way, so you don't have to go far for good food.

I probably wouldn't have minded this place as much if it was half the price I paid. This place is definitely overpriced.
