this hotel is right where the action is. but there is a quiet room at the back. it is friendly, clean and new. the bed is firm! breakfast is okay, that black canyon coffee is tough... ao nang beach, 2 minutes away, is noisy and crowded - but 10 minute walk to nappharat thara beach is traquil and clean and just as scenic. there are myriad massage parlors, souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, tuktuks, longtail boats right outside - even fish to chew the old skin off one's feet....

Room Tip: quiet at the back!

Stayed one night on the way to Railei. Location was very convenient as close to restaurants and the beach. Room was clean and bed was huge and confortable. Breakfast was simple but good. We didn't need any particular service.

Everything was pretty ok, near everything and nice clean rooms. I think 2500 is way too much for what you get though. It includes free breakfast at black canyon coffee next door but the service of this place is the worst of all black canyon coffee places that I've been. They are dumb, forget everything, most don't speak the local language which is Thai and they are really slow. Hotel itself I give 3 to 4 stars but could be 5 if they all would speak good English or are at least 24/7 at reception desk.

What can I say that hasn't been mentioned before? Yes the staff have limited english but were very helpful in organising tours, were able to give us a discount and even organised a ferry for our 2 night stay to phi phi which was apparently full according to other tour operators in the area. If you plan on travelling to phi phi (to stay not for a day tour), book this transportation in advance as there are only 2 times the ferry leaves and it is from Krabi town area not Ao Nang.

The room was extremely clean, well kept and decent size (Grand Deluxe with bathtub). Bed was a little hard for my liking but was good quality. Breakfast (included) at Black Canyon is good, and the 150 THB value can be used towards anything on the menu.

Very good location considering the price range, perfect for having a good base to explore the beautiful Krabi area from, basically adjacent to beach, right next to quality restaurants and close to bars. Recommended places worth a mention: Railay Beach - 100THB by longtail (explore the whole area including the east side, cool vibe and if feeling adventurous climb to the view point, amazing! Cheap food on longtail boats on the western beach furth down from the longtail drop off point). Hong Island tour - Beautiful island. The 4 island tour has one location at railay beach if you explore - the cave with the male shrine which you can visit youself easily. Long Tail Boat restaurant - In my opinion just as good if not better than the very highly rated LaeLay grill with an amazing seaside location within Seafood street, directly across the street from the hotel. Muslim Pancake lady with the Purple sign as you walk down the street away from the beach. You'll see her with the other street vendors. Best thai pancakes around.

Hope this helps you have an enjoyable trip as I did!

This hotel is a mid priced hotel for the area. It is fairly new and this is reflected in the nice decor. The bed was the softest and most comfortable we stayed in in Thailand. There was wifi at the hotel which worked well.
The location is great; just across the road from the beach and right in the centre of the action with bars, shops and restaurants surrounding it. Saying that, once we were in our room, there was no noise from outside at all.
Breakfast was included and this was good with a good choice of food.
Staff appear helpful but what they can do is limited as their English is poor.
If i was to return to Ao Nang, i would definitely stay here.

New looking hotel. Great shower, clean, comfy bed, tv and fridge. Double room was nice and big and plenty of room to store your belongings. Location was great and near to the beach for catching boats to the other islands. Walk in rate is much higher than online rate so book online.

This hotel is located at the far end of the beach road, literally just across the road from the ticket booth for longtail boats to Railey and the various islands. So excellent if you plan to catch many boats to other beaches (though Ao Nang beach is quite pleasant at the other end of beach road, the part where boats aren't allowed). Also just opposite the hotel is a row of restaurants overlooking the sea. The hotel is above a Black Canyon coffee shop which also does food and provides the free wifi.

The twin room was excellent value for its price - a large, new and clean room, plenty of space, fridge, cable TV, aircon, wardrobe, safe, hot shower, complimentary tea and coffee and electric kettle. The room was cleaned each day with fresh towels provided. While the room overlooked the road, street noise was not a problem, though there wasn't much of a view due to signboards advertising the shops below (but the sea was visible nevertheless). Maybe on the second floor you get a better view (the hotel brochure shows photos of rooms with terraces).

The staff were helpful and let me check in at 9:30am when I arrived.

The only problem was that there wasn't really anywhere to hang wet swimsuits and towels, except for in the shower or in the wardrobe. But that's relatively minor, and I would pick the Sea Star again on future visits to Ao Nang.

Room Tip: Maybe rooms on the top floor have a better view and a terrace.
