“Wanna eat good Thai food: go to Banana Leaf Restaurant”
Reviewed January 24, 2013 via mobile

Very good food, very nice and friendly stuff. I have been there several times. It was always very good thai food. There are other restaurants in Ao Nang which are more expensive but the food is never that good.
However, i have to mention that the toilet which is shared with other bars and restaurants around is a bit horrible.

Don't go. Worst som tam ever. Waited ages for service. Disorganised staff. With so much choice try some of the fabulous alternatives.

“Poor at Best!”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Had dinner at the Banana Leaf this evening. The place looks nice from the outside. But there are nicer looking restaurants. However if you like Thai food there are limited options.
There seemed to be only one waitress who spoke good English. Unfortunately not ours. After a struggle to get the order sorted our starters arrived, I had the Chicken Satay which was good and my friend ordered the Bruscetta which had been drenched in oil. Definitely not olive oil, it tased more like vegetable oil to me. For my main course I ordered prawns with garlic and pepper and fried rice. It came with steamed rice. When I pointed this out. The waitress apologised and went to replace it. By the time the fried rice appeared the prawns were stone cold and not at all enjoyable. My friend had the Thai green chicken curry but complained about the lack of chicken.
The staff were friendly and polite but I won't be visiting the place again!

“The name sounds like an Indian cuisine dining but it has local and western food.”
Reviewed November 21, 2012 via mobile

The local food is pretty good but that's expected. However the western food is sub par. It lacks the quality and taste of what a steak should be. I guess there aren't many average steak places around. The beef was probably from a local cow.

“Don't do it!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

We're very seasoned travellers around East Asia and love Thai and Seafood. Banana Leaf looks brilliant from the outside as it's probably the lease tacky place on the strip. Ordered a couple of cocktails which were average except the Pina Colada which was great. Ubfortinaty it stopped there. Ordered squid, grilled prawns, clams and fried fish... The squid was harder than tyres, the clams were fishy and off, the prawns were over done and the fish was ok.

We sent the squid and the clams back and ate the rest.. When it came to paying the bill, we asked politely of they could take the squid and clams off the bill and this is where they got rude. One of the waitresses threatened to call the police and we invited her to do so... Then she asked us to go and get them! So after a 20 min stand off where they wouldn't even get the manager out, we got fed up and offered to pay half of the squid and clams. They accepted and we left as soon as we could. Undoubtedly the worst food and service we've received in Thailand.

In summary, if you care what you eat, don't go here. There is a lovely seafood restaurant a bit further down in the corner of the walking street with great views of the sea.
