The main selling point of Lae Lay Grill is its magnificent view of Ao Nang and mountains. This is a unique setting for a seafood restaurant - not seaside by high up above everything. As such, Lae Lay is superb for a romantic evening or fine dining with friends. Sunset here was awesome.
The food here is naturally seafood, with interesting variations on western-style dishes such as fried shrimp salad as well as tried-and-true Thai dishes like steamed fish in spicy line sauce and grilled prawns. Most came out okay but the grilled prawns were overlooked and came sticking to the shells. You can probably get superior seafood down below on the beaches. A highlight was the Mu Hom, stewed pork belly cooked in herbs southern Thai-style.
Service here was more professional than many places with waiters handling wines efficiently. One non-menu request was misunderstood, probably because the staff could not deal with things beyond the menu.
Lae Lay Grill is a nice place to try out if you are looking for a great dinner atmosphere. Not many restaurants in Ao Nang come close to it in that regard.
