“Great view, average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We went to the Lae Lay Grill recently after reading the great reviews on Tripadvisor. The restaurant has a great location, perched on top of a cliff. They have nice outdoor seating where you can enjoy the breathtaking view. We went very late and were the last customers to leave so we got great service from all the staff as by the end of it, we were the only ones they were serving.

We had the steamed grouper with lemon and garlic sauce and also the whole lobster with black pepper. The fish was very fresh but unfortunately it was slightly over steamed. I am very fussy about steamed fish and one of the most important aspects of serving high quality steamed fish is to get the timing perfect. This one was slightly over steamed and the fish got slightly dried up and flaky. Still, taste wise pretty good. The lobster was a disappointment. The lobster meat was doused in a sticky, salty, pepper sauce. The sauce could well be from a cheap store bought bottle and totally ruined the taste of the lobster. The biggest disappointment was that the lobster was really fresh and of good quality and was ruined by the excessive sauce. When you order lobster, you want to taste the lobster and not the sauce.

I mentioned this to the staff and they apologized and recommended that I order just the lobster in butter next time.

“Perfectly romantic :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

We ended up here on our first trip to Krabi in 2009, and have just been back again while on holiday there. (27th August.)
Get there about 5:45/6pm so you're there in time for sunset - the view is amazing.
The staff are lovely, and if you get a seat opposite the huge open kitchen you can watch the chefs at work.
Menu is great - but you really should go for the seafood! It's super fresh, and well known for it. The seafood platter (good for 2 people to share) is seriously worth the money - in any western country you'd pay twice the price! The pineapple fried rice is also a winner.
Washed down with a nice bottle of wine, I can guarantee you'll have a perfect night!

“Fantastic Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Loved the convenience of their mini-taxi service that brought us from our hotel to the restaurant and back. We asked our hotel to make a last minute call, and they not only picked us up right away, the hostess were expecting us and saved us a table with better view.

We ordered crab cakes as starters, and shared the Andaman platter, great spread! The crab was a bit overcooked, but the rest of the selection was great. Wide selection of drinks, but the highlight was definitely the service. The hostess was very attentive, made great recommendations, and the waiters were always on hand and refilled our water regularly. Wonderful view and the lights in the trees added to the atmosphere.

Thumbs up!

“Impress with the view but not so on the dishes......”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

As recommended by other reviews on food, we tried Lae Lay Grill (just 5mins distance taking tuk-tuk). The view is fantastic -> sea and hills... but the food is a bit cold (maybe they put aside in order to serve all dishes at once)... price slightly above average... but not really premium price.. Once finished our meal, they will drove you back to your hotel... ;)
