Went to this resturant in May with eight friends after reading the reviews. We were so impressed that we all went back to next night. Steaks are the best you could hope for, along with the fast and friendly service this is truly the no1 resturant in Ao Nang. Do yourself a favour and try it you won't be disappointed .

Simply the best and the place to go.

I had seen this reviewed on trip advisor and spotted it 4 days before the end of our holiday - decided to give it a go. So glad I did - the food is GORGEOUS!! We ate there for 3 out of the last 4 days. The starters are just lovely - I recommend carnivore prawns - seafood served in a sauce, beautifully presented with a lot bread roll. Then you are given a salad which has a lovely sauce, for main course I had duck (450bht) - this is a big serving of thickly sliced duck in a orange sauce, I had grilled potatoes with this and was totally full up by the time it came to leave.
Quite romantic little restaurant - nice music playing subtly in the background and the atmosphere is relaxed.
I see other people complain its expensive - however, you get what you pay for - I had duck at another restaurant whilst in krabi which was 40bht less (about a £1) - it was thin and not nearly as tasty and the service was rubbish.
The serving staff at the carnivore wear traditional Thai dress and are very polite and hospitable - would highly recommend The Carnivore.

“Excellent Steaks and amazing Beer selection, with one small caveat”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

This is a difficult review to write. We have had some of the best steaks in Thailand here, but it is best to go when it is not busy and you can talk directly to the charming and knowledgeable owner. We have been to this restaurant about 5 times in 2 years and always enjoyed the steaks. They are Australian sourced and well cared for and well cooked. The menu has a guide to doneness, for example; medium rare is charred on the outside and warm and red in the center. The steaks come with an adequate salad, side dish, and your choice of sauce for the meat. We usually have the fair pepper sauce and an excellent baked potato with the usual fixings. The focus is on the excellent steak, so a fair to good sauce and a fair salad are not deal killers. The main choice for steaks is tenderloin or rib eye and size in grams. My small wife has a smaller appetite and usually orders the smaller steak. The ribeye is very good, but gets too thin in the lighter portions for the excellent grill person to do their best. The beer selection is amazing! I find new favorites, usually Belgian, every visit.

We have had the burgers and while the beef was very good they were served well done when we asked for medium and the bun is an oversized, disappointing cloud of soft squishiness. This is a steak place for us and that is what we will order.

A bigger caveat is a common one in Thailand, the staff do not understand as well as the owner. Well of course not and if you are ordering something straight from the menu with no changes and no questions they are smilingly up to the task. Otherwise ask to speak with Giddy, I hope I have spelled his name correctly. He is very knowledgeable, very accommodating, and plain fun to speak with. However, when a restaurant gets hit with a giant table and all those orders are coming at once, things get overtaxed. They do at most restaurants under similar circumstances, but I do not speak Thai and the kitchen chaos led to a minor error or two and they completely forgot our salad.

So go, if you can, when it is less crowded, but please go it is an excellent steak and the beers are so good and plentiful to have kept us two wine lovers away from the wines, but maybe not tonight!

The prices are fair and a nice touch is a shot of Sambucca with the traditional three coffee beans to take the sting out of the check.
