“Pleasent instructor and a nice evening.”

Me and my friend had a great time at Smart cook. The speed was fast but not too fast. We had a small group of four learning. Food was really good and simple. We love thai food of its fresh tasty ingredients and the "fast food" time to cook. Next time would love to take more challenge to the class. Thank you!

“Absolutely fantastic and so interesting/hilarious!”

Currently staying in krabi and the weather hasn't been great so my friend and I plus some guys in our room at the hostel decided to do this Thai cookery school in the evening.
I am SO glad we did it because it was absolutely amazing! Everything was so interesting. We had a teacher called 'Pear' and she made it so hilarious she was a bit of a joker and was very very sweet. I have to say if you are going to do the course make sure she is teaching the lesson she made it so entertaining!
Not only that but the class ran over quite a bit because she made sure that we were all enjoying ourselves and were not rushed in any way.
We learnt several dishes and had choices in various courses to try and cater for everyone's tastes which was great and the food was fab! You get to sit down with everyone after each course and eat what you've made so technically you are getting a delicious meal for your money also!

Being a poor backpacker I originally thought that spending 1000baht on a cooking course may be a bit steep but it was so so worth it and I highly reccommend it to anyone, interested in cooking or not!

“An amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

Absolutely enjoyed this cooking experience. We went as a group of three and one of the lads was a bit unsure about it, but came with a positive attitude.

We were collected from the hotel and we were delivered to the school. We were asked to choose what we wanted to cook, which was awesome. We don the apron and were introduced to our teachers. Our initial teacher was Ni and we had Pear for our paste lesson. Pear was an absolute doll. We was funny and very warm. We enjoyed her stories from her Grandma had past on to her. We giggled a lot.

The whole cooking experience was brilliant and we were all amazed that we had the skills to make good Thai food. All the spices and herbs were explained and the methods behind it.

We were impressed that we were even recipe books from it so we can keep the dream alive at home. I bought one of the gorgeous aprons.

All three of had such a brilliant time.

I would recommend to people who are wanting to do this is have a tiny breakfast. You have 7 courses to chomp full. Also, book to do the market visit, we never did it and we regret that.

“Reviews are not fully matching the reality”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Based on the reviews, we booked an evening class. First thing, was the pick up; we were waiting almost 45 minutes for the driver to arrive .... Of course, the delay affected the starting time of the class. Once we arrived, we were then taken on with full speed through the place and the class. All was too fast and no one had time to really learn. The instructor "Bunny" , who gave us the lesson, was OK, but a bit too much; she was speaking too fast and without paying attention to people, weather they understood her or not ........ I think most of us did not. To me, the whole thing was not as amazing as it is written in the few reviews related to this school

“If you like Thai food you will love this!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Myself, husband and 14 year old daughter did the smart short evening class when we stayed in aonang. The class was taught by pear ( sorry if it's spelt wrong) who was not only really friendly but was also really patient. Her english is excellent despite what she says! The class was really interesting, Pear explained all the ingredients in depth and showed us how to prepare our dishes ready for cooking. We did each dish step by step so you can't get lost at any time. We cooked our dishes and then sat together with a beer and enjoyed the fruits of our labour!! The food was absolutely delicious!
The class is great value for money as not only do you learn to cook Thai, get to eat 5 dishes of food, take away recipe books to use at home but you also get transported to and from the cookery school from your hotel whilst meeting some lovely people in the process, least of all the lovely pear. She actively encourages you to ask questions throughout the class and explained about Thai food within their culture. She is extremely hard working but loves her job and it shows!

On a further note, whilst at the course my husband left his brand new Oakley sunglasses at the venue (my fault). When we realised the following day we contacted pear through Facebook about this. She replied swiftly to say that she had found them and would drop them off at our hotel in the afternoon. We were so gratefull that she went to the time and effort to do this without a second thought. This was without a doubt one of the best experinces we've ever had whilst travelling and sums up our time in Thailand and the Thai people. Thank you once again pear, maybe we'll see you next year in Chiang Mai???Xx

P.S Big hello to Karren and Carrie.x
