“Nice hotel, shame about the town”
Reviewed December 3, 2010

The only downside to the hotel is the need to climb a hill for 50 metres from the main road to the hotel. The lighting at night needs improvement.

Otherwise nice rooms with great views. The weakest breakfast of the 4 tourist hotels I stayed in but still ok.Good staff

Ao Nang is a very busy town with the beach as a bit of an add on. There are many more appealing places in Thailand..

As stated before, this is a fairly new hotel. The staff were so welcoming and eager to please! Our rooms were on the 6th floor (we were a party of 12 people) and the views were stunning. Had a problem with no water on the last day and the breakfasts were just ok. Having said that though, this is a lovely place to stay as its a stones throw from all the activity in Ao Nang and the hotel is so authentic you will feel a true sense of having experienced Thailand. This is my 5th visit to Thailand but first to Krabi and will definitely include it again as a stop-over before Phuket (very close to all the islands perfect for snorkelling, swimming, etc.

Read middle of the road reviews and was under the impression we had maybe made a mistake in booking this hotel, couldnt have been more wrong, ok the bad bit, the only bad bit is the drive from the road to the hotel is steep (were talking 50 yards) at most. Some writers are too picky. We booked for a shared pool access room number 320 which is the upper level pool and a lot more private than the lower level pool, really good rooms with one of the most comfortable beds in, tv access to at least 6 english speaking channels including movies etc.. Ok room service is a little expensive but when you can buy your dinner for 50p on a street stall whats to moan at. Tuk tuk from yyour hotel is 40 bhat to the beach or just 10 minute walk (you can see the hotel from the beach) Main boat ticket place to Poda island 300 bhat or chicken island 300 baht both excellent. A-nang beach at the main bit too polluted from boat diesal but go left from boat ticket place round the corner water lovely and hardly anyone there. Lots of great place to eat if your at cha da just accross the road is boat noodle restaurant with an open kitchen dirt cheap food and its great, Im a chef and I mean really great food dinner and beer from 400 baht!!! bargain. Coconut bar best cocktails too. Down on the sea front all the massages are good and all cost the same price whether its in a posh air con place or under the lower village area. We will definately go back people fab, beaches fab, food which is a big must for me fab, fab, fab, only problem some days too hot!!!! what a bummer. Oh and moped hire good for just £2 a day!! Best snorkel beach is chicken island but mind the urchin beds.

We have just now returned from the Krabi Cha-Da Resort in Ao Nang Krabi (not to be convused with the sister hotel in Koh Lanta). Our duration at the hotel was 7 nights. Got our taxi from Krabi Airport. Poor driver had never heard of the place - had to ask other drivers how to get there. Anyway he found it in the end - he said the hotel was new only been opened for about 6 months. Taxi from the Airport is much cheaper 600bht - the hotel charges over 1000bht.

First impressions when we walked in was that the lobby was newly built - all dark wood (typical Thai Style). Reception (all one of her) seemed very friendly, happy and helpful. Given a cooling drink and cold towels and she explained bits and bobs about the hotel. To be honest most of it went on deaf ears as we were so tired after traveling and just wanted to get to our room and unpack and shower.

Because we arrived late in the evening we decided to order room service. This proved to be quite difficult as room service could not understand English to well and they said the Menu was in numbers (like a take away) but our menu did not have numbers. So with the smatering ot Thai we know we managed to order food. Took over 30 minuites to arrive and we only ordered 2 dishes and 2 beers - thought they forgot about us. Food was OK but it did not arrive with covers over it (like you get in other Thai hotels) - it was not horrible just not up to the Thai standards we are used to.

Room I felt was a fair size - king size bed with sofa bed beside it. Seperate loo with seperate shower. Air con with a ceiling fan as well.

Singha 85bht in the mini bar - which is quite expensive for the star rating of this hote. Only 35bht in the 7/11's.

We had a pool access room which was good - however I would maybe not consider one of these rooms if the hotel was busy as you would not get any privacey. There were 7 rooms in the wing we were in. You could just see the sea from our terrace. Rooms were nicely decorated but I have to say I found the lighting very dim. There were hanging lamps either side of the bed and 1 standard lamp near the patio doors which threw out the most light. There was no light over the dressing table - which was the only place the plug worked for hairdryer and hair straitners. There was also a balcony light but this worked for one night only. We attempted to get maintenance to take a look. Took 3 nights before something was done. Must frustrating when all the other rooms which were empty the balcony light was on!!!

We had breakfast included with our stay and there was no buffet - you had 3 choices on the menu Asian (fried rice or noodle), Continental or American (2 eggs etc etc). You also got toast with butter & jam, fruit juice, fresh fruit (sometimes if they remembered) and tea or coffee with all the breakfasts. Breakfasts was OK - again not horrible but service was appalling condsidering that on most occasions when we went for breakfast we were the only people there!!!. 2 of the mornings the restaurant was in total darkness and when we walked in all the tables had been cleared. We sat down and when we ordred our brekkies I had to ask for sugar, then when the food arrived they brought no cutlery so had to ask for that. Had to ask for napkins and ketchup.

We also noticed on the first morning we went to breakfast there was a dinner menu with a wine list and cocktails on display. After a couple of days this disapeared. One day we came back from the beach and we asked reception where the bar was as we wanted to order cocktails. We were told it was in the restaurant. Got to the restaurant and it was in darkness so in the time we were there we never ofdered any drinks (apart from the ones I mentioned above) . Pool bar was closed as well - never saw that opened all the while we were there. I suppose there was about a dozen sun beds out and that was it - the rest were piled up in the corner.

Hotel also advertises a spa - no idea where that was never found that either. Also the gym consisted of 1 cross trainer and 1 poly gym and that was it.

I would not recomend this hotel to people with disabilities as on a steep hill. Nor children as there is nothing for them to do and it would be a struggle pushing a buggie around there. Also they are building a large Mosque right next door and we were woken a couple of mornings with the call for prayer. So if you are a light sleeper I would give this hotel a miss.

It is a 10 minute walk to the beach as well which is not to bad going down but a bit of an effort coming back because of the hill.

There are 2 wings with pool access rooms. A childrens pool and the main pool is somewhere round the back of the hotel. It was a fair size but there was not sun beds around it so this would encourage people to use the pools which are only for the pool access rooms.

It rained for 2 days solid and the only English TV channel was Animal Planet, a movie channel and some American Channel which only broadcasted the news and stocks and shares.

On the day we left we noticed some chemical being put in the pool. When we returned from the beach in the afternoon the pool was cloudy and you could not see the bottom of the pool. Water was like a green colour.

It is such a shame because if you stayed in the Caribean you would be paying mega bucks to stay in a room with pool access.

I just think the Cha Da realy needs to do their homework and liven things up or they will not do any business. It would be a shame for this hotel not to do well.

I would recomend hiring a moped as well - only 150 bht a day. There is a fantastic beach about a mile away. Can't remember the name of it - it's a national park (just past the Krabi Resort). Reminded us of Holkham Beach in Norfolk. Spent a whole day there and had it all to our selfs. You can walk for ages and the sea was dead calm there.

Also forgot to mention the beds are real hard and there is not much storage space for stuff. Could do with a set of drawers as there was only 6 hangers in the wardrobe.

its located in the main street- ao nang beach area. but in the end of the street. its a new hotel, not very huge though . but modern and contemporary, also clean .i personally found the lights in the room too dim, we had to get extra lamps. but oherwise it was comfortable.we had a ocean facing room. they gave us breakfast, it was nice and pretty lavish. its like a 5-7 minute walk to the centre of the street and you wil find mc donalds, 7-11, and lots of restaurants. this hotel has a gym too. ad you must go for the full day cruise to phi phi islands- you can snorkel and enjoy the sun. the best thing i did in krabi was this

  • Liked — its a small nice and new place
  • Disliked — on the main street but not exactly in the centre

We booked four nights at Krabi cha-da resort (Ao Nang, not to be confused with Cha-da Beach resort in Koh Lanta) and were not disappointed. We were unable to find any reviews before we went, so went on the website photos only. We were not disapointed. First impressins of the hotel are that it isof very high quality. The lobby area is tastefully decorated and very plush. When we arrived the staff sat us down and gave us lots of informatin about the hotel and also Ao Nang itself. They explained a tuk tuk to the beach would cost around 50 bart, but despite reports of this hotel being far from the beach, we walked tohere, it only took 10 minutes. Out luggage was taken to our room for usand they showed us all the room facilities. The view from the large balcony was breathtaking, overlooking the cliffs and beach of Ao Nang. We would reccomend a sea view room rather than a pool access room for more privacy and a better view

The pool area was lovely, with two good sized pools and a childrens pool, plus a small bar area. We didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner at all but had breakfast there each morning which was veyr good. We paid around 2000THB a night here, but I would be very suprised if this price does not rise to over 3000 or 4000 shortly - it is a 4 star hotel by western standards.

Leaving the hotel by foot, you are on the road which leads down to the beach front. All the way down are shops, bars, restaurants and street stalls selling food and souveniers. The 10 minute walk is not a problem, and we preferred to be slightly further from the action. 5 minustes walk down the road is a 7/11. There is a second hand bookshop next door to the hotel as well.

The staff were all excellent, and spoke some of the best English of all those we encountered in Krabi. There is internet in the lobby area for about 100 bart an hour. We didn't use the fitness center but it looked well facilitated.

All in all, we would highly reccomend this hotel, especially at the prices we paid. We will retyn here if we ever venture back to Ao Nang.
