“Great value”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We were fortunate to get a free upgrade to an ocean view room, and were on the top floor. The rooms are clean, the balconies very nice and large. The pool is small, with no lounging area around it, but we enjoyed cooling off after a day of activities at the beaches or downtown. The large buffet breakfast was an excellent way to start the day, and the staff in the front office truly did whatever they could to make our stay more enjoyable. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ocean view. On the top floor was great!

During our recent three week trip, this delightful little hotel was one of our favourites !

We made booking enquiries quite a while ago, and in the lead up to our arrival we were kept up to date with the status of our booking and a deposit was only taken from my cc a month before our arrival. Balance paid on departure.

The Royal Nakara is a small hotel in a quiet street about five minutes walk from the main road heading to Nopparat Thara Beach (right) or Ao Nang Beach (left) at the bottom of the street. Food stalls meet you at that intersection and I couldnt help myself, every time we walked by I bought some chicken, prawns, spring rolls to eat along the way, all for ridiculous cheap prices. The walk to the beach front in Ao Nang is no more than 15 minutes and there is heaps to look at and do along the way - want a take away cocktail for 99 baht? Sure !!

Anyway, back to the hotel - the front desk staff are lovely. They seriously could not do enough to help us out. We had two rooms on the top floor, with fantastic verandahs looking towards NT Beach, with sun lounges. Our room also had a kitchenette, not that we used it.

The rooms are beautifully cleaned, with a good size bathroom and a very comfy bed. Wifi is free and quite good.

Breakfast as mentioned previously is basic, but all you really need to get off to a good start - fruit, cereal, juices, coffee/tea, an egg stand to get eggs as you wish, toast and a few hot choices. What more can you ask for?

Also as mentioned before, book your tours and/or transport requirements at the front desk - best prices we could find !

With all of these great things, there are always a couple of minor issues - our shower pressure was fickle - no real big deal, but if I am giving an honest review I need to mention it. And I loved how cooling the pool is - very refreshing, however it's a shame that there is nowhere to sit nearby....it's a bit weird and a waste to be honest. It could be so much nicer !

Overall, I would definitely recommend the Royal Nakara. For price, location away from the busy beachfront, comfort and beautiful staff I don't think you can beat it.

Room Tip: Try and get up high for a view toward the coast

Pros:
• Big and very clean room.
• Helpful & very friendly Staff, the lady can speak English quite well, she provided us with some information on how to go to town, the islands trips, book van to go to the airport.
• Booking island trips from this hotel is cheaper from the other travel shops.
• Value for money.
• Wifi
• Breakfast is simple but alright.

Cons:
• No lift, we got the room at the basement, we had to go down the stairs but the staff will help you bring your luggage down.
• The pool is shared between Royal Nakara and another hotel, the small pool is in the shade so the water is freezing.
• Location is not the best, you have to walk at least 10-15 mins to access the beach and the restaurants, the road is quiet and dark. I would rather stay in one of the hotel in Aonang town on the main road, it feels more lively and safe at night.

Rooms were nicely furnished, staff were helpful with enquiries, breakfast was good and only a 10 minute walk into ao nang. Only slight criticism was that there were a number of small steps/ridges around the hotel and in the bedroom that were not always obvious so I tripped over a couple of times!

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 14 nights, first impression of the room were good , nice and spacious and very clean, we had WiFi for free in the room, although it was a little slow it worked and that was fine, The room was cleaned everyday, with a change of clean towels daily too. The location of the hotel is not to far a walk from the main drag, 5 mins walk and you hit the shops, 10mins and your on the beach. From the far end of ao Nang town it cost about 40 bahr to get back to the hotel so plenty cheap.an option if your feeling a little lazy ... Regarding the breakfast I loved it, some what limited in options but filli.g never the less, always bacon sausage n ham eggs fruit and toast with a extra random tray with a dinner meal on it, I had a Thai chicken curry on morning lol..... Now we talk staff, the family that run this hotel are so friendly and helpfull, anything you need they'll try their best to help you with , 10/10 for the staff. If we ever returned to ao Nang we'll100% book in here again...

Visited Krabi again for the 2nd time, and Royal Nakara Hotel for the first.

The room was great! Really huge - compared to what we were expecting. Nice and clean toilet, too bad there wasn't a bathtub in it :p
All the rooms are Non-smoking, but there's a nice balcony outside. Be sure to keep the balcony doors closed in the evening/night, because there're mosquitoes. But the hotel is placed on a hill, higher above the other hotels so it's very cooling at night.

Location-wise, abit further up hill from the food streets but isn't really a problem - just rent a bike. Only 200Baht per day (250Baht if renting from hotel).
It's about 10-15minutes walk from the hotel to Ao Nang Street (the happening street) and the Ao Nang beach.

Staff's great, loved the breakfasts in the morning. The omelette chef is really excellent.

They have a beautiful infinity pool, shared with the other hotel, literally in between the two blocks. Very nice, with a jacuzzi. Too bad we didn't have a view from the pool.

All in all, had a great time there.

Yep, I gave the excellent, on the assumption that within the budget hotel category, this hotel is doing a very good job.

The size of room is quite big, bigger than you'll think you will get with this price. It is clean and the bed is very cozy. The reception (Owner?) is very helpful. The staffs are friendly... breakfast is just rigth.

Well..location? I drove a car so that shouldn't be a problem. For the one who don't drive or ride , you may have to consider the cost of transportation in Krabi, which is expensive.

For the pool, I haven't used it. no comment.

Room Tip: These are some fact: - hotel doesn't have the elevator. - The lobby is at the upper floor, th...
