Myself and two friends treated ourselves to a half day spa package at Simpsons Spa and had a lovely day.

The spa is very small and peacefully quiet so you really do feel relaxed and unhurried. We were able to use the outdoor hot tub before our treatments started then we were asked to get our 10 minutes before our treatments started to dry off and freshen up. I had an Indian head massage and manicure/pedicure. I thoroughly enjoyed all of my treatments and felt very pampered. The spa uses Elemis products throughout even in the changing room areas.

Included in our half day package was lunch and as it was a Sunday we were able to have Sunday Roast which was absolutely gorgeous! Lots of choice on the menu and we also had desserts which were huge portions - lovely as many spa days offer just a salad based buffet lunch.

Having been to Eden Hall, to compare I would say that whilst Eden Hall is also very nice, it is very busy, and there is almost too much going on everywhere - at times too busy to get a comfy sofa. Simpsons is the opposite to this, very intimate, not packed with guests and its not huge so you don't have to walk far to the changing rooms or various facilities. I will definitely be back - might stay over night next time!

We attended a family wedding and booked three rooms. All were excellent. The two with children were large and comfortable. All had really nice views. Other reviews have commented on lack of cleanliness but we couldn't fault it. The lounge areas were very comfortable and afternoon tea was good quality with plenty to eat/drink. The hotel staff were absolutely excellent - nothing was too much trouble and they were all very friendly and efficient. We ate bar meals on our first night - the staff had sectioned off one part of the dining room for our group - food quality was excellent although quantities weren't enormous and we had wait a very long time for the food. We would go back. Now, the minor gripes! Before we arrived we noted that children were not allowed in the restaurant - they were allowed bar snacks or room service - there is a children's menu, although it is very basic and expensive. The bar meals are over-priced for the quantity provided. Soft drinks are extortionate - a half-pint of coke £1.80 and a pint of soda almost £3! We felt that the hotel is either running on a very tight budget or that there is an issue with stocks of food and drink e.g. several bar meal options were sold out and there was no lime to go with the soda. Also, the sauna was not working and we got the impression this had been so for some time. These are things the management should be able to address easily and it would make the difference between very good and excellent.

Room Tip: Overlooking the lake - lovely views

We have stayed here for my mothers last three birthdays as a treat for her. She always enjoys the spa and the food is always top quality.
The rooms are fine, but some can be a bit stuffy and would benefit from air con, but I get that's to be expected as it is an old historical building with individually styled rooms. If you are lucky and the weather is nice there is a lovely walk around the lake. My mother has walking difficulties, and they accommodate this by giving her rooms near to the lifts, although this year I think ground floor would be preferable as she now uses a wheel chair..
On the whole a really nice place for a weekend break and some great food . No doubt we will be returning soon.

We were welcomed by friendly staff and good check in. The room was a large front facing double with great corner bath and shower fittings, bathrobes, extra white fluffy towels. The building is beautiful and the staff are superb, friendly and most helpful.

We stayed here due to the fact we couldn't get anywhere else! The building is beautiful and the staff are superb, friendly and most helpful. Sadly the hotel rooms are dated - we were in room 207 and it had a lovely round bath in a awkwardly shaped bathroom but it was ok! The room was on the 2nd floor and was extremely hot as with many old buildings. Even with the window open is was roasting and the heat from the cupboard/wardrobe made our clothes warm!

Room Tip: All rooms have their own identity I think, can't remember the room we stayed in the last time bu...
