We have stayed at Ferry Cottage a number of times and we leave each time with another bagful of great experiences and happy memories, different each time.
We find that it has a wonderfully homely feel with masses of atmosphere and character. It has 3 double bedrooms and, importantly, all the beds are comfortable. There is a well equipped kitchen/breakfast room; a comfortable sitting room with a lovely open fire and a large conservatory - it's absolutely ideal for a winter or summer break. Outside is a large and beautifully kept garden which is amazingly private and completely unoverlooked, despite being at the very heart of everything.
There is every opportunity to discover all sorts of delights on the door step and a short drive away. Alternatively, it's the perfect spot to relax and chill out.
We will definitely be staying here again (and again, we've no doubt).
We had a lovely week's holiday in Orford in this gem of a property which was fantastically appointed and all consideration was made to ensure we had relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Would most certainly book again.
We had spent some time in London with our son and had decided to head to the east coast to explore new horizons for us. Found some excellent reviews on Ferry Cottage so decided to book for a few days. Interesting area with the mysterious Orford Ness, ancient castle, great pubs and fantastic walks. Highly recommended. Make sure you are there on a Wednesday for the very appropriately named "Moving Plaice" a mobile fish and chip servery down by the castle. Not to forget a great bakery which has decent coffee!
Ferry Cottage is a perfect location on many levels. It can be a quiet hide away for yourself or a centre point for the family to enjoying long walks, cycle rides, sailing or bird watching with the river in close proximity. The cottage is spacious and homely with a generous and established garden to enjoy. Local eateries are within easy walking distance and the village shop and bakery have good supplies. Orford has a fascinating history so do explore the Church, Castle and Orford Ness.
A terrific house to stay in with family or a group of friends. We've visited twice before, in winter and summer and had a wonderful time.
In winter, the conservatory is a great spot to stay warm and dry and after dark, the fireplace adds to the space thats warm and welcoming.
The kitchen and dining room are spacious and well equipped for catering for larger family groups and upstairs there are three larger bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The garden is a great space with lots of space for barbecue dinners in summer and room for children to run around.
The location of the cottage is perfect - there is the Jolly Sailor pub across the road if you don't feel like cooking or just need a pint after a days fishing on the wharf. The boat ramp and river are only about 50m and the grocery store, bakery and another pub are an easy 200m walk. There is also a fish shop across the lane where you can buy fish that's been landed that morning.
For a weekend of peace away from London we really enjoyed it. Great idea to grab some friends and have a weekend away, or book with the family for a week. Golf courses not too far down the road and lots of walking options around.
I had a wonderful stay in Chrissie's cosy cottage by the sea. It is in a fantastic location and is very comfortable. Easy walk to both the sea and the village. Would definitely recommend it for a seaside holiday.
Ferry cottage has an unmatched position right next to Orford Quay. The cottage is very well equipped and felt like a real home from home. We visited in October so the open fire was a welcome touch. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs which provided plenty of space for our family group. Outside there is a very well maintained English country garden with seating and even a summer house. There is ample parking off road for three cars and the local pub is just a short walk away. The village of Orford is absolutely charming with great walks, interesting shops and it's own 12th Century castle. It has a really quaint 'English' feel that is rather like stepping back in time. The surrounding area offers plenty of sightseeing opportunities. We can't wait to come back to visit Ferry Cottage again soon!
