My daughter, living in Australia, wished to give me an experience for my birthday as I am grown up enough to have aquired most of the objects I need. After a stunning 3hr ferrytrip from start to end of Lysefjorden, where my son-in-law stood in awe of the mountains we passed, Kjell picked us up on the quay to save my pregnant daughter the walk up to his farm. Good service! Kjell made us feel welcome with an excellent cup of freshly brewed coffee before we got installed in nice, clean and airy rooms. He showed us the super bathroom facilities in the barn basement and lent us good bicycles for the ride down to the quay area where we bought a few vegetables for our grill-food dinner.
The "eldhus" (fire house) made a perfect setting for preparing our own food, brought from home. Kjell brought us the charcoals, we fired up and had a cozy, delicious meal! Kjell joined us for quiet chat over a glass of red before we cleared up and went to bed. We slept soundly, and Kjell rescued my hat, sweater and vest which I had left out in the night rain. Next morning, Kjell prepared a delicious breakfast buffet including homemade crispbread and their very own pickled herring salad before driving us down to the quay again to catch the ferry.
I said to Kjell: "You - pottering about your guests all the time, making sure they are comfortable makes a world of difference. You really made us feel welcome and at ease. Good man, Kjell - thank you!" ...and I really meant that.
