Owner description: The original house on this 3,000-acre estate was built for Sir Thomas Chicheley in the 1640s, rebuilt and added to over the years, and finally restored to its proper splendor today.

We visited the house and farm on the Free entry day last month. The house is amazing and you can actually walk around the rooms freely instead of behind ropes. The house, although enormous, seemed really cosy and light. The gardens are immaculate and the volunteers were very friendly and helpful.

Wimpole Farm was also great. My children loved it even though it was heaving! Plenty of things to see and do.

There are a few restaurants/coffee rooms however we took a picnic so didn't use them. The toilets we used were clean.

I would recommend this estate to anyone. I would definitely go back :-)

The house was very interesting particularly as it was furnished with a lot of original furniture .The walks were interesting and you could see a lot of sheep, cows ,horses etc.The daffodils were particularly lovely The formal gardens were lovely but the walled garden a disappointment as it was was almost empty.

Nation Trust, well done this years staff, fantastic, friendly, helpfull and informative especially the car parking young lady what a great girl.
But after this it's all down hill. Food venues were completely under staffed and over worked. How they managed to stay so helpfull I don't know, you don't deserve them.
The grounds were in very poor condition and the farm a disgrace. So little staff with children running amock causing visable distress to what animals were to be seen. The staff at the farm had no chance. It would seem the worst of the children were from the 'well to do' NT market with the parents completely unable to control the children. I wish I had taken pictures and sent them to the RSPCA.

This is a nice estate with good easy paths for a walk about. Fair food at the restaurant and reasonably priced. However, I would not bother with the walled garden at this time as it was the barrenest and most disappointing garden I have ever seen. I am surprised they keep it open to the public in such a state. You see more plants on the footpaths anyways.
