From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very special.

It had been my birthday earlier in the week and the team at Cameron Highlands went out of their way to help me celebrate.

Our bed had been decorated with flower petals and Happy Birthday had been spelled out in petals with an elephant origami towel too.

Following dinner on our first night we arrived back to our room to find a birthday cake waiting.

I was also invited to light the fire in the lounge and presented with photographs when we checked out.

During our stay I visited the spa and I have to say that this was the best treatment I have ever had. The tea bath followed by a Balinese massage was just heaven.

Every single member of staff at this hotel provided excellent customer service. I just could not fault it.

Thank you to everyone at CHR for making our stay so special.

Incredible time at this hotel. Staff were very nice and helpful and polite. Room felt like you had gone back in time.

Best part were the guys in the restaurant - Aslan and team, with a wonderful new chef. These guys were top notch and the service they provided was incredible. They gave us such wonderful foods for breakfast and dinner and were always very happy to talk, help and advise.

Their food made an already incredible trip to the highlands absolutely incredible.

Superb hotel, beautiful rooms, very friendly staff and servants. Too bad that the hotel is so close to the main road between Tanah Rata and Brichang: the whole day noise of motor vehicles that are passing by.
We booked the tea plantage and luxury picnic trip in the tea field: excellent! We had our own privat butler and delicious food. They only had forgotten to bring a bottle of wine. This was made up later that evening with a nice bottle of Italian prosecco, fresh strawberries and melon in the library next to the burning fireplace.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a three and a half week honeymoon in Malaysia.

Many positives: the hotel itself is beautiful old cololonial style. Staff are friendly and helpful. Housekeeping staff Adi and Vitty made a great impression with their advanced towel origami (awful to say but we have now grown used to the loving swans, here we got a happy turtle and a Japanese samurai looking dog!).
We took a tea plantation tour organised though the front desk (4 guests in a land
Rover) - fabulous to see the fantastic landscape and have the tea production process explained to us by the guide, who was very knowledgeable - especially on things like the conditions and working rythmn for the plantation workers (who don't have an easy life).

Spa staff were friendly and I would say this is one of the big plus points of the hotel. I had a great massage but my husband's masseuse seemed a bit inexperienced or unsure and so the massage was not so good. We both enjoyed the 'tea bath' preparation before the massage.

Negatives:
Rooms (I think all of them) face a busy road with traffic through the night and ours at least was not well insulated, so if you are a light sleeper this might not be for you.
The food was not up to the standards that you would expect of this kind (and price) of hotel - eg. Bread rolls and morning pastries of the sort that you buy in the supermarket already part cooked and finish off in the oven at home. Dinner ingredients were fine and presentation fine but the preparation/taste was distinctly below par - I could have done better at home.

There stems to be a problem with restaurant staff training - the staff are very pleasant but the service dominates the meal - they float around the tables with intent topping up glasses or removing things from the table actively and during dinner even tried to remove my plate before my husband had finished his. Its also a bit disconcerting that you don't have one or two waiting staff that are identifiably 'yours' - just seems to be a free-for-all, with all in the dining room actively waiting on all of the tables ( we were tempted to ask them to just leave us alone for 5 minutes ). Also a bit poor that waiting staff didn't know which wines were red and which white without checking the menu.

wifi only available in the foyer/library area - so this area gets crowded.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road if possible - although not sure they have any

This hotel is located in probably the only decent stretch of Cameron Highlands long winding roads where the beautiful past remained preserved as the rest of the area has been turned into ugly haphazard Chinatowns, strawberry farms and traffic jam central with landslides dotted around. The service was excellent from arrival to departure and our standard room was huge, comfortable and elegantly decorated. We tried both the Japanese and western restaurants and both were of brilliant standard. The price was right if you were tourists and affluent Malaysians. In short, a heavenly oasis in the depressing farce that is Cameron Highlands.

We stayed for 3 nights here and could not get enough of the hotel.

Friends told us that 3 nights was too much for Cameron Highlands but we had a great time sightseeing and enjoying the hotel facilities. Sitting at the balcony, enjoying the fresh air and view together with a cup of tea. Lounging in the lobby having afternoon tea and sitting in the cosy reading area at night with a lit fireplace.

We were worried about the noise level too after reading several reviews but it turned out to be acceptable considering that we were facing the road, above the lobby area.

The service staff here was helpful, polite (except for the sullen guy who served us during the high tea) and comes across as sincere.

The Spa experience was wonderful as the therapists were attentive to our every needs. We had our spa session in the evening and proceeded to order room service for dinner after. It was the way we had wanted to wind down our last night.

downsides: a leaky toilet cistern whose dripping sound was irritating at night plus a flickering toilet bulb. Nothing which the maintenance guy can't fix if u alert the hotel. But it did take away a few points.

This is our 2nd stay at a YTL property, the first being The Majestic in Malacca where we really enjoyed the comfort and service. So far, we are pretty sold on the YTL brand and can't wait to visit another. Good job and keep it up!

A lovely location, A fantastic colonial style building. Outstanding service and very modern facilities. Be ready for the cool temperature compared to the coast. A great place to relax after a day out. The reception staff were amazing. Helped us with the most economical way of sight seeing. Took a taxi to the Tea plantation as this was the primary reason for visiting the area - and it wasn't disappointing. Rolling hills of tea, with workers out collecting the leaves.

Room Tip: Any room facing the front of the hotel should be good. We had one with a nice balcony to sit out and...
