“Excellent New Rooms but Horrible F&B”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

My wife and i bought the groupon for 1 night stay + buffet bfast + steamboat dinner.

The checkin was very fast and we were very pleased with that.
The room was BIG and SPACIOUS and CLEAN. Free wired LAN internet in the room + safety box + bathtub + shower were big big plus points as my wife and i and our little baby lovess comfort.

The view was also very good - we faced the trees and nothing else. When taking a nap in the day time (3pm), all you hear is the very peaceful sounds of the wind and birds chirping.

Steamboat dinner was fun as it was free - but we would never have paid for it.

Most of their restaurant staff didn't fully understand English (whereas the front counter+bell service were proficient).

The worst experience was in the morning buffet breakfast. We were the earliest at 7am.

1) The sambal for Nasi Lemak was burnt
2) The bread toaster didn't work
3) There was only 3 staff on hand - so no plates were cleared from our table whilst we were eating. VERY BAD.
4) But the worst of all is the chinese chef who was handling the Egg Station. He was rude (all he did was gesture rudely at the plates he had prepared and didn't say a single thing nor smiled), incompetent (every egg dish he cooked was UNCOOKED and RAW), didn't man the station (he was busy chatting with the restaurant cashier) - i asked Reception and was told that his name was "Uncle Foo"

i was terribly upset at this dis-service from the restaurant staff. Needless to say, we didn't stay long in the restaurant and left to eat outside.

Overall, we loved the Room and Peaceful environment - the new wing is very comfortable.
I would have given this place a "Very Good" - but for the horrible buffet breakfast and its' staff.

Room Tip: Go for the New Wing Rooms!

The staff are friendly and the lobby area looks lovely. However, The room we rented had mouldy carpet, causing the whole room to stink of mould! Did not expect this for a room being rent out for RM260 per night. Would not stay here again.

Large comfortable room with good view; quiet and clean, but stairways rather scruffy and dirty, although not run down as mentioned by one reviewer. Good facilities with games room, library, children's play area. Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. Safety boxes at reception but not in room.

Wifi access only in hotel lobby and I found it difficult to connect consistently - not good for those who need to keep connected.

Located on a steep hill on the edge of Tanah Rata, can be a tiring walk up and not suitable for elderly; your own transport is recommended although reception will call a taxi (10 Ringit into town).

While breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of Malay and western foods, the chinese restaurant in the basement offered only a rather expensive "steamboat" in the evening and the "rainforest" restaurant lacked any character and was not widely used while we were there.

OK for 2 or 3 days but I would recommend Brinchang for a longer stay.

Stayed here just for one night. Reception staff were pleasant, they helped order a taxi for me without any fuss and also helped with a phone socket so we could charge our iPhone. Bed was huge and firm and the room was also very huge. There was a bath tub and shower which was great. The man at the bar was extremely friendly as was the majority of staff.

The location was not bad, it was within walking distance to the main village area of tanah rata where theres a strip of shops etc. Prepare yourself for a work out as you have to climb a hill back up to the hotel.

Only negatives was that there was an extremely noisy family on the floor above us (nothing to do with the hotel) We couldn't get any sleep and ended up complaining to reception at 1am after we had enough. Reception obviously made a call to them because the noise stopped 5 minutes later. Also the breakfast was not very good.

This is a very good hotel on Cameron Highland.

Good Point:
1. calm and relaxing environment, good to have a breeze walk in the morning.
2. near night/day market which sell alot of things. One thing to note that you might need to bargain and the price is not as cheap.
3. food available on walking/driving distance.

Bad Point:
1. deep in the middle of Cameron Highland and way up the hill to the hotel will be a bit jammy especially during school holiday (Malaysia).

I believe the hotel does not want to spend anymore money to upgrade. It looks rundown. The only good point is its location is good. Parking is plenty. Very Muslim skewed. But it is located on higher ground therefore it is quite quiet. Breakfast is so so only as not much choice.

The rooms are old, the food is not great. The hotel in general needs renovation.
Staff wanted to help us but they don't speak or understand English.
The hotel is a bit far from the central area but it has a good view.
