Description: The current listings on trip advisor are very limited and this relatively new establishment provides good food at reasonable prices, and provides a different choice (japanese) for people (esp after travelling for an extensive time in Malaysia)

I always trust the reviews on Tripadvisor, which in my past experience always reflect the real thing. But not in this case. I genuinely believe that the many good reviews of this restaurant are written by the associates of the owner.

Firstly, this is not a real Japanese restaurant, it's just a local restaurant with sort of Japanese food, and it is very much overpriced compare to other restaurants in Tanah Rata. No Japanese beer, let alone sake. I have to admit that the wasabi is good, the California roll was made fresh with crispy seaweed, and the servers were nice. That's it.

We had sushi. I wouldn't expect to see a piece of hard overcooked who-knows-how-long-it-had-been-there fish. Even the most classic Japanese omelette sushi was failed. Then comes the maki roll which was clearly pre-prepared with damp seaweed and the rice that has been stained red by the crab stick. I can cook better miso soup by simply mixing the miso paste with hot water! The worst thing is yet to come. The most basic thing in a Japanese restaurant - rice. It was mediocre long grain rice overcooked to very soft and brittle. Japanese rice should be short grain, okay if they serve long grain, but this is a low graded rice overcooked and becomes not just soft but brittle! How can a restaurant fail on its rice??? Even the street side stall cooks much better rice.

The damaged? We were shock when the bill was presented. The most expensive meal yet the worst one we had throughout our so far one week holiday from Langkawi to Penang to Cameron Highlands. Surprise that a seafood meal on touristic Cenang Beach in Langkawi is even cheaper!

No wonder we were one of the only two tables dining there on a Saturday dinner time when everywhere else were packed.

Make sure you try the Salmon Sushi. The home made cakes are good. The staff is very friendly. Overall this place is awesome.

The food here was delicious and enjoyed but the whole family - great tempura udon, miso soup, yakitori, edamame. Fresh, clean, lovely to sit on the street and have an early evening beer.

I had the whole grilled pike, which came with miso and rice. The modest sized fish was fairly tasty and cooked to an appropriate degree of doneness. I would say it was a fairly fishy-tasting fish. I didn't mind but those who like more neutral taste in fish should be warned. The miso was average at best and the rice seemed a little tired. My wife had udon noodle soup and tempura. She thought the soup was good and the tempura prawn and veggies were tasty and light; she did lament the lack of a dipping sauce for the tempura.

nice cheap little Japanese place on the main tourist drag in Tanah Rata. had a decent mixed tempura with a really moreish Udon noodle soup. Not much for vegetarians, although I'm sure if you asked they would rustle something up.
