“No chance of sleep here.”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

Me and my girlfriend spent 3 nights here and really wanted to like the place but every night was distubed due to noise from the tv/lounge area. Our room was located second from the lounge and check in desk. The room had a window onto the hallway which amplified the noise coming into the room. relaxing in the evening is frustrating as you can't here yourself think and on our first night the noise went on till around 2am which made us sleepless for our trip, the second night was just as bad but the last night of our stay was the worst as the noise stopped at 11 but then loads of people came in after a night drinking at about 3am and never went to bed and although I politely asked them to keep it down it just carried on resulting in no sleep at all. A piece of advice to the owner is that the lounge area should be out of bounds after 10 or 11 especially as most people are here to do hikes or trips so sleep is important and after all sleep is what you pay for. I always base my reviews on our personal experience and must say that out of around 40 hostels we have stayed in over the last couple of years this one is up there with the worst. If you like a good nights sleep I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Room Tip: ask to be as far away from lounge and reception as possible but this might not make much difference.

This was a decent ensuite room in a nice guest house with a decent communal area. The bathroom was fine, not the best we've had but certainly not the worst, shower was decent. Location a little off the main road but ok.

Staff were very friendly, we arrived from Taman Negara on the Father's Guest House bus (I think they own this place too but I might be wrong). The driver was very helpful and took us round a number of places as it was very busy at no extra charge as we struggled to find a room. We managed to book this place for our second night but had the first night in CH in a dorm. This was a more expensive (obviously) but much better experience and I would recommend it, although you might be able to find something cheaper and definitely don't come here during school holidays as everywhere is busy and charges more because of it.

The guesthouse is convenient for Tanah Rata town, within five minutes walk from shops, restaurants and banks.
The twin room was basic and clean but wardrobe was damp and there were no mosquito screens (few mosquitos due to low temperatures at night).
One of the members of staff, Mr Smith, was extremely helpful and recommended several walks with clear directions.
Our room was next to the outside seating area and reception so could be noisy at times.

Room Tip: One that is not next to the communal area or reception desk.

Eight Mentigi was recommended to me by another GuestHouse I really loved staying at in another city, so naturally I went there pretty confident.
The place was really not hard to find, and really close to the main area of the town (where you can suprisingly enough find a Starbucks and plenty of cheap food).
I took a double room though I was alone. It was okay, not immacutely clean and there were some fly but as soon as I notified it to Smith (one of the owners), he took it upon himself to make me feel comfortable. Smith is one of the best host you could ask for, always there when you need help.

Averall, it's really a budget place, don't expect too much but you can meet incredible people in a nice environment.

Me and my sister went to chua gin hotel(brinchang) costs us rm98 per night on a weekday rate with no shower head in the shower, a paint bucket for a pail, a broken tv table with basic cable channels, n wobbly double bed.

We decided to check out and search fr a better place to stay. We found 8mentigi(tanah rata). Same water heater WITH shower head, no pail, no tv in the room but astro channels in the lobby. N two single beds. With just rm60 for a weekend rate.

I would recommend this place as its cozy and the staffs r kind. They disinfected the rooms before we enter as my sister hates mosquitoes. Even some budget hotels are worst than this place.

This was an ok budget option in a good location just off the main road. We had a twin room with ensuite which was quite shabby and a little musty smelling. The communal areas however were really nice with big comfy sofa's and outdoor tables and chairs. One guy on reception was quite offhand with us but the other was most helpful and arranged a day trip for us and bus tickets to Penang. The breakfast was an extra 5MR and was a fried egg and cheese sandwich, no alternative, and a coffee, they also had drinks making facilities available (but no milk).
