“Great place to stay!”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Lovely place with clean and comfortable rooms. The staff are very helpful and helped us to plan our onwards trip. The tours are also excellent. There is a nice bar and lots of cats and dogs to play with! Good place to meet other travellers too!

This place is really cheap and you get what you pay for. It is below basic and could have been a bit cleaner. However, the staff is very friendly and this is an excellent place to meet other travellers. Very good atmosphere.

When I arrived we wanted 2 dorm beds, but they only had one, so I took their offer of having the matress in the TV room for one night. That's okay right? Not really, since the TV room is also the hallway. People walking by all night, hearing all the toilet activity and getting some whiffs now and then. It wasn't very clean on the floor either. In a regular bed I don't even mind, but this was too much. I was glad to get 2 hours of solid sleep into a regular bed when the first guest checked out. In hindsight, I should have paid a little extra and gotten a private room. After this I spent two nights in the main dorm, which was fine really.

Room Tip: Do not sleep in the TV room!

Kang Travellers Lodge is a good place to stay if you want to meet people and if you're on a budget. They have private rooms and dorms. We payed 38RM for a double. Our room was very small - it had two twin beds, one table and that's it. Also there was hardly room for the luggage. Because the "window" faced the hallway, we had no sunlight in our room. However, it did not bother us too much since we did not spend much time in the room. The shared bathroom is very simple, not very clean but ok and has hot showers (which is very nice if you consider the "cold" temperature in the highlands).
You can book tours from the hostel, which we recommend to do. We did the jungle trekking to see the rafflesia and it was very good fun (exhausting though). You can also book your transportation there (to KL, Penang, Perhentians etc.).
But the higlight of this hostel is the jungle bar which is very nice and cosy, also the staff is friendly and the athmosphere is relaxed.

I stayed on the recommendations of a few friends. Was as I expected.
It is a basic place but then it's also very fairly priced for what you get - I paid about £8 a night for a double room with en-suite bathroom. But, what I didn't expect was a pick- up from the bus station. Nice surprise!
My room was clean and with the blanket on the bed AND a sarong and scarf I was cosy. Oh, and my shower was lovely - really hot!
The staff were friendly and helpful. The jungle bar is a cool wee place too, as is the terrace. Nice place to chill out or sit and chat with other guests - or use the free wi-fi.
I'd say go with an open mind.
For the money and atmosphere this place is great. A few of us went on one the trips offered and our 'Guide' was awful - trip itself actually pretty good. When we complained the staff at the Lodge were really helpful and accommodating and in a gesture of apology bought us all a beer and BBQ'd corn that night.
Would recommend.

Room Tip: My room was round the back of the lodge near the bar, but still quiet. It can be cold at night here...

We turned up and were able to book a twin room for a few nights. The staff at reception were fine, although nothing more.

The room was small and simple. Just a bed, bedside table and a fan. The windows were bug-proof.

Toilets and showers were very basic and somewhat unclean at times.

Drinks in the bar were at a decent price and it had a nice atmosphere. The owner joined us on one evening and had acquired some wine that he was considering selling in the bar, he generously offered us some and allowed us to finish the bottle. This was probably a one-off situation, but I think it shows that the staff at this hostel are nowhere near as bad as some have said.

I would go again. You might find better, but not at the same price.

I Quite liked this place. They always worked hard to keep it clean. It was comfortable, the wi fi always worked and there was tea and coffee at reception.

The Indian lady that ran the place was always friendly and helpful. She was happy to give her time with anything you requested. I also took their organized tour to the local sites, Tea plantations etc, and it was well run.

I came here after having problems at Twin Pines, and this place turned out to be A LOT better than twin pines.

There are nice gardens and Buddha statues everywhere :)

We stayed in Daniel's Lodge for a week and loved it. We can really recommend it and are surprised about the negative comments of other users. Yes, it is basic. But it is really cheap and this is one of the best value we had in SE Asia (and for sure in Malaysia). Rooms and bathrooms are clean, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the big terrace is perfect to chill and the beers in the bar (with bonefire) are cheap.
Just make sure you'll stay in Daniel's lodge (whhich is up the hill) and not in the hotel (on the main street). The lodge is really cosy and has a big commun terrace. The hotel is less atmospheric.
We also have good experience with the travel agency where we booked tours (same prices everywhere in town) and our bus ticket (different prices in town).
If we come back to the Cameron highlands, we'll definately stay in Daniel's lodge again.
