We've been visiting Sturdy's Castle for years. An ideal stopping point between Oxford and Banbury. It was good once then slowly deteriorated over the years and had become very down-at-heel. The new owners have now completely transformed this place!!
There were just the two of us for Lunch on Saturday. Hard to find fault. Friendly greeting, very pleasant staff, beautifully clean. All the staff were cheerful and actually seemed like they wanted you to have a good meal! Efficient and friendly service and great food which we really didn't have to wait very long for at all. Everything was well cooked and tasted wholesome and fresh. Hard to fault - especially as the prices are very reasonable. Something on the menu for everyone - including the Jacket spuds (which looked very good) that Sturdy's became famous for 30+ years ago!!
The restaurant was really very busy - obviously a lot of people trying it out after the refurb. I'm sure, like us, most of them will return. Great to see Sturdy's doing so well again.
Our next visit will be on 'Steak Night' which I believe is a Wednesday. We trek from Banbury to Oxford quite regularly so I'm sure Sturdy's will become a frequent stop for us.
My only slight worry is the previous review (whatever he had on his breakfast I really MUST avoid!) As that was his first review I can only wonder why he bothered to register in the first place!!
Anyway, Sturdy's is great ........ give it a try!

OK just been for a meal with my wife and daughter, to the newly launched Sturdys castle, and it will be the last time, ordered 3 meals, got 2 wrong, then we all ate at different times, because of there inability to run a restaurant, i asked for Cod, if that was Cod i am a monkeys chuf, my daughters roast was awful and veg and yorkshire stone cold, and my wifes meal was also chewy and naf, ok we was offered a free dessert, so my daughter chose one, and sadly they then said out of 9 or so offered only 3 were available, so we declined, both of the cappucino's was served warm at best. CCCCCCCRAP DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, THEY ARE CLUELESS, BACK TO THE TURNPIKE THEN.

Went to see how this restaurant had changed since recent makeover. Had been closed for about 3/4 months I think, and had a lot of character, so what has changed?
Lighter deco and tables arranged differently. Not sure if more people could dine now, but soon filled up and glad we had booked.
On Sunday a roast is offered- beef, pork or chicken breast with roast spuds, 3 other veg and yorkshire/ stuffing if wanted and delicious gravy. Much of the menu offers 2 for 1 deals and so we had 2 roast pork lunches for £12-95. We could of had fish, main dishes such as steak/ale pie, burgers or veggie options with the cheapest dish free. Seems good value so long as an even number are dining. Drinks OK, but draught beer/lager pricey I thought at £3-60/£4 a pint.
Wine £4-95 for large glass.
Would recommend and there are different offers in the week, but 2 for 1 is every day.

The place has just been renovated so we went to visit it just one day after opening (15th March). It smells of 'newness' - everything is shiny, fresh and beautiful. Fire was on and it was really pleasant. The staff seems to be a bit stressed, but I'm sure once they are used to the routine, they will be very good. The only thing missing is music - the TV was on but it's not the same as relaxing music playing in the background.
The food was really good and reasonably priced. Will definitely visit the place again.
