“Recommended for a Tasty Evening Meal”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

The Royal Sun is a comfortable pub-restaraunt conveniently close to Oxford airport where you can get a tasty meal in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is extensive and varied, quite reasonably priced, although the specials board seemed a tad expensive.

The Battered Haddock & chips and the succulent Pork Loin Steak we had were both good size portions, very tasty, perfectly cooked and well presented. The Autumn Berry Eton Mess (pictured) was layered un-messily, but really tasty.

The service was cheerful, but the waiter could’ve be more interested in his customers, preferring to chat to the barman. A drink glass which had a previous user’s lipstick on it was changed without quibble and in good humour, but without apology.

However, I have no hesitation in recommending The Royal Sun for an evening meal.

“Pleasure to eat here.”

The food was excellent, menu excellent & staff very friendly, what more could you ask for?
The food was very tasty, well presented and value for money. The menu was extensive as was the specials board. It was a warm & friendly English Pub, the staff were very helpful and once realised we were on holiday suggested various places to visit.
Would definately go again when in the area.

“Quite good....”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Went to the Royal Sun to meet up with previous landlord and take relatives for a Bank Holiday meal in the evening. We knew the landlord and his wife as their previous pub had a good reputation for food and in particular choice with much variety and a huge specials board. Although the specials board was not as expensive, the menu offered a good range of food and the restaurant was fairly busy. The waiter was fun, friendly and easy going. The starter, beef chilli nachos for three with cheese, was tasty, and a good sized portion, so a good 8/10. The main courses were mixed, and some of the family rated the gammon, and also the lamb shank, highly, but the fillet steak wasn't the best I've had and lacked a bit in terms of quality, and my cousin found his chicken tikka curry disappointing and not to his taste, so an average 6/10 for the four main courses as a mean average. The desserts were good though, and the caramel ice cream was the pick of them, so 8/10 here. Overall an enjoyable evening in a nice friendly pub, but still a bit of room for improvement on the food.

“What a pleasure.”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

We were staying at the nearby Blenheim Edge Guest House (see separate review) and host Simon recommended The Royal Sun for an evening meal. Absolutely delightful. A good value and incredibly tasty meal in a lovely atmosphere. This had the comfortable feel of a friendly family English Pub. If you are in the Oxford, Yarnton or Woodstock, this is the place to go.
