“Gastronomic retreat”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

Come here for the isolation, stay for the scenery, local produce and the genuine hospitality and friendship of the hosts!
Our rooms were ground floor, large, spotlessly clean and well provisioned with fresh fruit and jam from the home orchard. White peaches will never be the same again. Our apartment was self-catering and lacked of nothing. Plenty of room to prepare meals and relax indoors though being summer, we lazed away on the lawns and ate al fresco every meal. We even used the BBQ and cooked some food we bought in Alba. (The best seafood supplier, butcher and fruiterer are all within walking distance in the main road in Alba, 20 minutes away).
This accommodation is best for those with independent travel; car or bike as it is a few klms from the village which is known for its scenery, wineries and outstanding food. Our accommodation included large bedroom with comfortable bed, kitchen/sitting room plus a separate bathroom. Spotlessly clean and comfortable with all amenities. Alternate accommodation is also available for those not needing all inclusive facilities.

Room Tip: We chose a ground level room as Cheryl has knee problems. The upstairs rooms are equally excellent.

We stayed at Il Ciliego for five days in July 2012, but it wasn't enough time as there is so much to see in the area. You are in the heart of the Barbaresco wine region surrounded by vineyards and great views, a tranquil retreat away from mass tourism. Paola is a wonderful host who knows the area well and gave us a lot of information about where to visit and which are the best restaurants. The apartments are spacious, extremely well equipped, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We didn't really want to leave! We will definitely return in the future and cannot recommend Il Ciliegio highly enough.

I came to Il Ciliegio with a friend and we had an amazing time! The B&B apartments are really nice and spacious with a big kitchen, and the decor is really homely. We came after attending a friends wedding in Albisola near Genova so we were looking forward to getting away from the hustle & bustle (that being said we had a big night out in Alba on a Tuesday night where they have live music at heaps of bars! Was really fun - and we have done plenty of wine tasting too!). Paola is fantastic to deal with and gives you advice depending on what you want to do. We visited Neive & Barbaresco on our first day which is a good way to see the medieval cities (and taste wine at the many enoteca's and cellar doors). Paola drew us a map the next day to visit some more cellars in an area that specialises in white wine. We are off to France tomorrow but can't recommend Il Ciliegio enough and wish we had more time - there is so much to do and the accommodation is perfect for relaxing when you're not travelling around!!

Room Tip: All of the rooms have an amazing view over the vineyards.

I stayed here with several friends while visiting wineries and attending various food/truffle fairs in Piemonte this past October. I could not have been more pleased with this little hotel. The best part is that it is literally surrounded by beautiful nebbiolo vines on all sides. In the late fall the vines start to turn a burnt orange color and it is very colorful spectacle. It is an adventure finding this place as you have to drive past endless rows of vines before you get there, and you really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Rooms have good views with balconies, are simply furnished, immaculate, have lots of extra blankets in case you get cold at night, nice breakfast spread if you come with a big group, super value, and wonderful and very accommodating owners. Not at all touristy, it's away from the hustle and bustle of things and very peaceful. Yet only a 10 min drive from Alba!

Beautiful, peaceful location with fabulous uninterrupted views from the apartment and terrace over the vineyards. Most convenient for visiting the Langhe area. Our accommodation was spacious, well equipped and extremely clean and the garden impeccably looked after. Paola made us feel most welcome and gave us plenty of advice on local walks, restaurants, things to do and where to buy wine! We would most definitely recommend Il Ciliego and hope to go back soon
