Description: The Pointer is a country pub, restaurant farm and butchers that serves fantastic modern British Food. Situated at the centre of the village of Brill in Buckinghamshire, we are open Tuesday to Sunday, serving lunch and dinner from Tuesday through to Sunday afternoons. The butchers where you can buy our meat and charcuterie and produce from local artisan producers, is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday morning until 2pm. At the pub, we cook what's best on the day, using the seasonal produce we either grow ourselves in our kitchen garden or purchase from local artisan producers. Much of our meat comes from our own livestock herds and neighbouring farms, and if from further afield, from farmers who believe in excellent standards of animal husbandry. We’re easily accessible, have plenty of parking and beautiful gardens leading out to some lovely walks. You’ll find us by the village green, next to All Saints Church. Families and children are very welcome. In Spring 2017 we'll be adding four rooms for overnight stays too.

“Below expectations”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Just back from a meal at The Pointer, beautifully kitted out with some serious money spent on decor and crockery but not quite meeting expectations yet.

I arrived late on Sunday afternoon and was happy to be accommodated, they had at least 4 staff working front of house but I still had to get up to order my drinks and food after waiting 10 minutes, they were not busy.

Food selection was very poor, 2 starters, 3 mains, 2 desserts and it took a while to come out. I started with the soup which was pleasing but the saddle of lamb roast main was disappointing. It looked fantastic, coming out in 5 separate dishes with umpteen bit of cutlery but the meat was cold, the potatoes hardly roasted and hard in the middle and all the vegetables far too sweet that they ruined the balance of the dish. Annoyingly not one member of staff came to check how my meal was, and when they collected my plate simply said 'do you want anything else?' again not giving me the chance to give feedback. The dessert was a nicely executed sponge with vanilla sauce.

If they were hitting the mark then food and drink would have been good value. Not in a hurry to rush back...

Ricardo C, General Manager at The Pointer, responded to this review, January 31, 2013
Dear Alan can I firstly apologise that we did not live up to your expectations on your first visit to the Pointer. Can we say how truly sorry we are that you felt we did not look after you in a manner that has become such an interracial part of what we stand for.

I have spoken to our head Chef who would also like to offer his apologies to you for the meal that you felt was below par. The reason we keep our menus smaller than the norm is so that we can produce then with only the best fresh local ingredients that is available to us from our own farm or surrounding farms.

I can only ask if you would be so kind as to call me or email me directly so that we can discuss this matter in more detail

Kind regards

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Brill is a lovely village, well worth a visit on it's own. Now that it has The Pointer, the package is complete. What was the Red Lion has been sympathetically refurbished and is now comfortable and stylish pub/restaurant. The emphasis is on quality food with no microwave in sight. We visited on a Sunday and were told by the landlady that their philosophy is to keep things simple but good, so the menu was limited to a roast, a fish dish and a vegetarian option, but cooked to perfection. Recommend booking on a Sunday. Will definitely return. In fact, we all wanted to move to Brill!

“Friendly pub/restaurant with great service”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Went to the pointer on Friday evening, very relaxed place, with friendly people and great service, food was very good and reasonably priced, we ate in the bar which was about noisy but no fault of the place itself. Would say to go in the restaurant as it gets busy in the bar area. Great find and will visit again

“Adequate”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Went for a mid week supper. Soup was lovely with fresh bread beautifully moist. Mains were ok but not inspiring. For a pub with its own meat supply I was hoping for something different - maybe and odd cut of meat or some offal... Will definitely try again as the place is really well done inside and beers good.
