Stayed for three night with my partner during the Easter break. Lovely cottage with under floor heating, fireplace and very spacious for two people. Clean with some tea/coffee facilities and a nice bathroom. Location was great, close to the beach and dunstanburgh castle and a short drive to Alnwick. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful but there was enough privacy across the road in the cottages to not have to be part of the hotel if you didn't want to be. There was a communal garden/picnic area out front and parking on site. Had a lovely stay, great find, will definitely be staying again in the future; thought it was excellent value for money. Only complaints are that the underfloor heating got a bit much in the evening and at night (but we could have asked someone to turn that down for us really so an avoidable issue really); phone signal and wifi are sparse in the cottage itself (better access in the lounge at the hotel) and the shower makes a bit of a groaning noise which isn't a huge issue when using it but my partner was woken up by the cottage next door using theirs...I didn't hear a thing though so must depend on how light a sleeper you are, it hasn't put him off staying in the future though. Thanks for a lovely mini break.
This is the first time we have visited Northumberland and it certainly wont be the last!
The cottage is clean and cosy and was a perfect size for myself, husband and small dog, but it was the location we loved most of all. It is just approx. 15 minutes walk to the beautiful beach. The walk along the beach was listed in the Guardian as one the the UK's top ten walks, with walking left approx. a mile to the small village of Newton by Sea (You must visit The Ship Inn and have one of their home made brews but note serving food stops at 2pm for lunch) or 3 and a half miles the other way to the village of Craster with its renound smoked kippers, stopping off at Dunstanburgh Castle on the way. The beach is spotlessly clean and at this time of year very quiet and we have returned from our holiday relaxed and chilled.
